It could be better but by how much is probably negligible The way I see the Ovation concept is that the upper and lower bouts were important in how the engineers wanted the tone of the guitar to sound. To get that tone, they had to have the shape we see today in our round backs which was only really achievable (cost) using man made material. the material Lyrachord is really icing on the cake. I believe some of the first Pre production units were fiberglass? The back plate is much less important acoustically for most frequencies, partly because it is held against the player's body. The sides of the guitar do not vibrate much in the direction perpendicular to their surface, and so do not radiate much sound. Source: How Geeters work coffee low light is on!!

If the back of the Ovation bowl doesn't vibrate as well because it's held against the body then it's primary function is to reflect sound it receives, directly or indirectly, from the top. To be more reflective, the lyrachord would require some kind dressing to enhance that ability. A wooden guitar with a quality lining material might tend to be overly heavy as it directly relates to the amount of sound reflected, so lyrachord is the better choice. If there is a specific material suited to increase the direct/indirect reflective property of the lyrachord, without adding excessive weight to the guitar, then that would be the ideal. It would seem reasonable that Ovation Instruments has researched this and has chosen the best top woods and the ideal bracing for any specific bowl designed with lyrachord. If there is a topical substance to enhance the flective properties of lyrachord, it might require a change in the bracings, so that would be a custom-made instrument at best, probably much more expensive.
