I just stumbled on these. I always just screwed the pickup into the guitar. I can't believe I've been so oblivious. Anyone know any other sources besides stewmac?
Thanks

there were some imports that used that method a number of years ago. I remember buying basket cases and robbing them off of them it is a very cool idea

They look a little funny though, don't you think? I think I first saw it done on a Hondo so it screams import to me (but that's my problem).
On all the Teles I've built recently I've just mounted the pickup to the body with some strong springs and foam under it to keep them at a good height and level.

I sold my tele-copy to pay for my electric papoose. And the papoose was great, going to and from, china, brunei and bali, they let me bring it on the plane, no problems, even though technically it exceed the flight requirements. The thing is just so cute.

But ... while the papoose is a great travel guitar and an instrument in it's own right ... I miss my tele. I was looking to build one with warmoth. Swamp ash body with strat tilt back headstock maple / pau fero 24.75" neck and fret board, and bill lawrence pups. I've had good luck with the BL pups.

Anyhow ...

I took off the pickguard from my old tele and liked the look, but then I saw these mounting rings in the warmoth gallery. I agree it is more "genuine" just to screw it into the wood and I wouldn't have to worry about finding another source for these things. I wish most of the things in life were like this, like trying to decide what kind of ice cream to eat.

Skinny Baby Lee,
All the bodies I've gotten have been from Warmoth. Great parts and with nice wood you don't want a pickguard. I personally prefer the look of the pickup set into the body and no surround but it's up to you. Good luck with your project, it's lots of fun creating something that plays.
