Brad, is that a semi-commitment to head up this project? If so, you ARE THE MAN.

A semi-commitment at best. Just putting forth a possible plan.

Waskel-Thanks-Yep I'm still a pain to someone, somewhere. The procedure yesterday morning went off without a hitch. Thanks for all of your positive thoughts.

I would definitely be in. However, I would like to offer the suggestion that the design be portable to a couple of different straps from the same maker. For example, a thinner or thicker leather, or maybe available on a woven material. It could be offered on a lower end strap or on a higher end fancier strap.

Having an option to get a personalization, such as initials or a name, might be a nice addition that people could choose if they wanted to spend the extra dough.

This way we could appeal to those who want a $40 strap and those who want a $100+ strap.

Looks like Brad pretty much knows the drill. But maybe somebody (Brad!) could contact a couple strap makers to gauge their level of interest and what is practical. I would be happy to submit a couple of designs to see how people like em.

AFG, glad to see your up and posting! Take it easy.

I am a Levy's fan but when I was in Nashville last fall I found a strap at Gruhns that I really like ... here is a link:

Pinnacle Strap

It is very well made, nice leather, and Gruhn's has them embossed with their logo. I use it on my 1537 and am getting ready to order a couple of more, but if the OFC strap is a near term deal, I'll wait. Maybe they'll give refer Brad to their source, which they claim is local.

I play sitting down, therefore I have little need for a strap. However, if there were an OFC strap (and this has been discussed several times in the couple of years I've been here), I'd be in for at least one. It would have to have a llama on it somewhere, though. Or, alternately, if it's being made of leather, made from llama hide. ;)

I think a llama logo is perfect.

I think a llama logo would be perfect also. Kind of like our own secret handshake.
I guess it would not hurt to contact a couple strap makers to see if an order for 20 or maybe 30 straps is meaningful to them or more of a pain. However I would not go beyond that without first getting the blessing of our beloved administrators. And even then it might not see the light of day.
Flysig.....I think we would do best offering one kind of strap. Value will come with ease of manufacture. Knowing how much work went into the calendar, I'm glad we did not offer two versions of it.

...Kind of like our own secret handshake....

Based on some of the stuff that gets posted here, I don't know that I'm game for shaking hands with certain members.

Errr, wait, that doesn't sound right.

I sent out a few feelers. We will see what comes back.
I dunno....lots of bucks. One website had custom straps starting at $400. I did not bother e-mailing them.
Here are a couple links.

My suggestion....

We agree on one or two different styles of leather (or partial leather) strap.

We create Artwork which will fit those straps.

We buy the straps from pre orders made.

We have the leather on the straps laser embossed with the artwork.

This could be done fairly easily...once we agree on strap and art.

Here's a collection of very affordable and decent quality leather Straps

Jeff, the laser embossing is a good idea. It might offer a little flexibility on the type of strap too. Then it might be possible to offer a chap and an expensive version.

Buy the basic strap then send it somewhere else to be customized.

I believe our place works with a couple of shops that do that kind of thing. I'll see what I can contribute and get back to you all. I rarely play outside the backyard here (damn electrical collars anyway!) but I would be in for one for sure.

Seems to me the first thing to agree on would be a logo design. Everything else is negotiable, no?

Agree on a logo? I thought we already had it nailed...remember the Ovation logo with the hippy dude (heh, I said dude) stepping on the round back? Just replace the hippy dude with a llama. Bingo.

;)
