If we ever decide to do the OFC strap thing, here is the guy to do it. Fantastic straps custom made to your tastes!

With the "talent" on this board... I think a design could be found that "several" straps would be ordered.

Said another way. If we had a OFC strap... I'd buy one. Maybe two. I think 20 or 60 could be sold in a heart beat.

In fact people would be bitiching that... He has his and I don't have mine and I paid first...

A cool design is needed first. I think the 3 or 4 strap makers that have been listed above could all do a fine job. The volume "should" keep the cost in line.

A $30.00 strap delivered is a lot to pay... But not if it's a special OFC strap.

If we started now with a design request from the board... Had something to kick around at the tour stop... And got a list of who wants one.

I think we could have "THE OFFICIAL" strap by Christmas.

Comments.

Hell, there's already a calendar, a cd and a guitar on the way. A strap should be no problem.
Brad's got nothing to do until September and he needs to keep his hand in. I think I just heard him volunteer.

My strap preference is something devoid of "hard" and "scratchy" items on it.

Dave,

Thanks for the Moody info. I had borrowed a friend's strap a couple years ago but couldn't remember the name on the it. It was a Moody, superior craftsmanship and a really comfortable strap.
I'm eyeballing the Camel and suede blue ;)

If the name Moody is on it, the craftsmanship is always superior.

That's too thick, that's too thin, that's too brown...

We will never have a "strap" that will fit everyone. I still think a "nice" quality could be found and produced for $30.00 a strap.

What do we want it to look like?

As for $100.00 straps... I'm sure we can find someone who will do very good work for a chance to be the strap maker for the OFC group.

The turn around time might be slow... But the quality for 50 or more straps...

I think this could be done.

Anybody have a design in mind?

Maybe Designzilla could put something together.

Or....who is the member that is a fantastic cartoonist? Maybe he could come up with something.

I have yet to find any better made strap than the El Dorado straps. They are also high end but man are they worth it IMHO. Their leather tooling is also VERY nice...

Of Guitar Straps And The OFC
We have knocked this idea back a forth quite a bit. Here is how I could see it happening.
1) Get permission from Myles and Al.
2) Realize that a set dollar amount will go to the OFC upkeep fund. Like the calendars, at least $5 each.
3) Post one of those dreaded polls and gauge the amount of real interest.

***sidebar***
The best way to get a good deal from a strapmaker is to say, "Iv'e got the cash in hand on an order for an X number of straps. Our budget is $XX.XX. What can you do for us?"
The second best way is to say, "I've got a committment for X number of straps...." This way the maker has to cover himself if the real quantity comes in less than the commitment.
Also, like the calendar this would be a one time thing. This would not be an item that you could buy from the OFC store 1 month later.

4)Realize that this will probably not be a high end, top of the line type strap. The final form of it will depend mostly on how many we order. The real value will be in whatever unique design we come up with. It's a geek thing.
5) Speaking of design, we have to be aware of and stay clear of any trademark issues.
6) Got to be aware of shipping costs. Including packageing. Between shipping and the OFC I can see a $40 strap going for $50 easy. Shipping out of the U.S.A. would have to be covered. What I thought would be more than enough for the calendars turned out to be just enough.
7) Like Woz said....not everyone would be happy with the end result. That's too thick, that's too thin, that's too brown... You may end up thinking it's a POS but you will pretend that you absolutly love it and act accordingly.
*
Much is unknown. The realist in me says we would be extremly lucky to move 20. But that is what I said about the calendars. It might turn out as well as the calendar project....or it might be less.
