Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the forum and to Ovation. I just bought my first Ovation. It is a black Legend Contour 2077LX-5. It is my first solid top guitar. I am upgrading from a 20 year old Fender Concord. I was interested in the Ovation contour for comfort.

I found a really great deal at GC. A very steep discount. It was a final sale, no return. It was brand new, but I knew the guitar needed some adjustments and fret work. I bought it and had the work done by a trusted technician. (Not the people at GC). The frets, relief and action are all now perfect.

The problem is that when I put a brand new battery in the op-pro studio, the red light stays on. It stays on all the time. Even when I remove it from the body. The tuner does not consistently engage when I press the button. I have to hit it a few times before the diamond starts to flash. Sometimes the tuner just does not go on at all. I really love the guitar.

Any suggestions on how to get the pre-amp fixed or replaced.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

John

If you haven't done so yet, check ALL the connections closely.

Welcome John. If you bought the guitar new, it's under warranty. Do as MusicMike says. Best customer service on the planet.

If it is on even out of the guitar, then the electronics module itself is flawed. If new from GC, contact Ovation. They sent me a new module for my VIP when I was having some issues then just had me return the old unit in the same shipping box as the new one arrived in. Great service. Avoid shipping the entire guitar as the entire electronics package (from plugs to pickup to module) is easily swapped out in minutes as long as you pay attention.

Thank you all for your responses.

I got a very fast reply from Kim Keller at the "Mothership." The pre-amp must be seen by a service center or dealer. If it is indeed defective, then it will be replaced.

Damn, they're good. It bears repeating that one of the reasons I spent what many people think is a crazy amount of money on 2 new Ovation products recently is the reputation of Kim and John. And Al of course, although his reputation is much more colorful.

For a new guitar, I think the first port of call should be the dealer, not the mother ship. Let them deal with the warranty.

"No return" doesn't mean they drop all warranty responsibility. Just means you can't bring the guitar back if you change your mind.
