Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | As alluded to in another message about Jeff's tragedy. I got this as new old stock for less than 1/3 of the $5000 retail price. While I am normally NOT A TAYLOR FAN.....I think 95% of the ones I have played suck big ones, this one was AMAZING TO PLAY, TO HOLD, and TO LISTEN TO....SIMPLY AWESOME! Maybe the "thin bodied" Grand Auditorium size did it for me, but it did not punch into my ribs and was extremely comfortable!
Snagged the pics from a few other websites because I haven't had time to take any of my own. Mine has the LR Baggs system like in the middle photo and not the "expression system" shown in the last photo.
Evolved from the 2000 Limited Edition Signature Model, this acoustic-electric "thin-body" (Grand Concert depth) Grand Auditorium with Florentine cutaway features a white rose pearl and abalone peghead inlay; pearl "Chet"-style fretmarkers; abalone-trimmed top; gold-plated Grover tuners with ebony buttons; and the LR Baggs Doyle Dykes custom pickup. |

There's a nice story behind that inlayed rose though I can't remember it just now.
Hard to beat abalone inlays on a black guitar.
I own a couple of older Taylors and they're fine instruments. |

This one reminds me of the Kathy Mattea model. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I played one of the 812s and wasn't impressed, but largely because GC wanted $2000 for a used one. I wondered why they call it a concert model when the sound was so small. Other Taylors I played had a lot bigger sound. |

I try not to be biased and give every guitar brand a fair shake but Taylor was one brand that I had never played a guitar that I really liked....the T5 feels kinda lightweight and cheap to me and I can't understand the hype. Even the 900 series left me cold. I pulled this one off the wall just because it was on clearance and was black with beautiful abalone all over. I thought...if only it could sound as good as it looked.
Well the shallow body felt really nice and comfortable..almost like a roundback...and the guitar had a very distinctive and brite yet mellow tone. Hard to explain but very soothing. The short scale and the fingerboard both felt wonderful and the next thing I knew after some hard bargaining, I walked out the door with it.
If you have the chance to play one, give it a try. It may not talk to you like this one did for me but nevertheless, it is the only Taylor I have played that I thought was worth a damn. |

I got to see Doyle Dikes actually play on one like that (except kind of an orange color :eek: ) a couple years ago. If this one has a sound like that, I can totally understand the attraction.
If you get bored with it I'm sure you can find it a good home... |
