I'm outside of Seattle/Tacoma, and I'm shooting for Vienna, Austria...What's the most economical carrier to choose from? Thanks for your frugal, wise counsel! Mahalos 2 Y'allos~

Shopped for a cheap dentist or barber lately ??? ...What's the most economical carrier to choose from? Seriously, shipping costs can vary by 300% or so. They all do a good job UNTIL something goes wrong. I'm not advocating that you have to pay top dollar, but one thing to keep in mind is that companies like UPS, FedEx and DHL are in business to make money and they only do so by providing quality service. On the other hand USPS is the GOVERNMENT. That same organization that offers such stellar services as Social Security, the IRS, Federal Disaster Relief, Homeland Security ... Dave

Costs are between $80 and $110 depending on the actual weight of the guitar + hardshell case and box. Insurance is optional but cheap. Tracking possibility. Never had problems. Austria is next to Germany so I think there is no noteworthy difference. Karl

They do have a size limit though...I believe it is 108" length + girth (add 2x width + 2x depth + length). Most guitar boxes are just under but some, like for deeper bodied guitars, are over that limit and can cost $300 to $400 to ship. As someone else said, you also have to check by country. Keep in mind there may be customs duties involved as well.
