Hello, I came across your site while looking for info on an old guitar I've had for some time. I started reading your postings and have enjoyed them for the past few weeks, so I thought it was time to join and say "Hi" so that I wouldn't feel like I was eavesdropping. I also need some advice and it appears there is an abundance of knowledge here. First of all, I'm only a recreational player (translation: I have fat fingers and no sense of rhythm) and haven't touched a guitar in almost 20 yrs. Secondly, I have an old Ovation I bought in the 70's. I would like to get back into a little playing now and again and possibly get one of the grandkids interested in something besides gameboys and x-boxes. Being an old-timer, my Ovation needs some work. The serial # is 006-040 and the model is 1114-0. I believe that puts it being made in the 60's and that it is a Josh White model(?). I've been looking for someone or someplace here in the Phoenix area to get her refurbished, but I don't even know what it needs or what would be a fair price to have it done. Any thoughts on this would surely be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Shadow,

I live in Phoenix also. "The Music Store" in Mesa (Baseline and Dobson Rds.) does pretty good work for a fair price. Call Ron at 480-831-2525.
I've owned a few 1114 models. Email me if you have specific questions.

Welcome to the OFC. Dave

Welcome Shadow!

I believe you are in the right place, time and location! Start by looking over Dave's www.ovationgallery.com and you will see his Josh White pride and joys as well as many other cool and distinct models.

He is in your neighborhood and should know some good set up techs.

Welcome. Dave's the man. Hope they can get that Josh White refurbed. It's a good guitar for fat fingers. Don't let them tell you it's for nylon strings.

Welcome Shadow. It good to have another member from Phoenix. It must be a growing town. It now is bumbing boarders with us. Precision guitar in downtown Phoenix is another place to look into.

Thanks to all for the advice and the welcome. You guys are FAST! It took me longer to spell check than it did to get replies. Dave, that is really a sweet collection of instruments. I'll be checking out both recommendations as soon as I can (I live in Surprise and with gas prices the way they are, I might have to save up just to make the trip). I'll keep you posted on progress. Thanks again, Steve

As you will see, none of us bother to spellcheck. Dave never misspells his 4 letter words, though.

True, but 4 is about his limit.

I have noticed that spell check is not a pre-requisite, which made it even easier to join. I was just trying to make a good first impression. Steve
