Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Yes, it's an improvement....I did it last summer. Also on my 2002 Collectors', 1777 Legend and my Adamas Melissa Etheridge 12-string. It's nice not to have to worry about wiping off the gold to prevent tarnishing.

Fingerprints and eventual tarnish.
Pearloid Upside:
No prints, consistent and bright.
Pearloid Downside:
some additional cost to obtain
Ebony Upside:
Looks exquisite and classy! Black goes with everything.
Ebony Downside:

Location: Phoenix AZ | Note - EBONY buttons are not the same thing as BLACK PLASTIC buttons.
The luthier who built my baritone made his own buttons out of zebrawood. I don't know how he did it, but they are really nice.

Location: CT | I love the pearloids. When I got my Custom Legend in the early '80s, I felt ripped off because the Anniversary and Legend had the gold which I thought looked classier. Now to me they not only look better, they're also not tarnished like a lot of gold hardware on eBay O's. I just swapped out the gold ones on my Legend LX 12 string and not only like the looks better, but 26 bucks is a small price to pay for not having to wipe down 12 tiny gold buttons everytime I play. |
