Anybody else caught any of the early buzz on The Wreckers, the new alt.county duo featuring Michelle Branch and Jessica Harp? Their debut album is due out May 23rd; it's called "Stand Still, Look Pretty." And they ARE-- pretty, that is. Hell, they're drop-dead gorgeous! Check out some pics of them at www.michellebranch.com and see if they don't remind you (visually, anyway) of a young Ann and Nancy Wilson. One's dark and beautiful, and the other is blonde and beautiful. But don't let the pretty faces fool you. These ladies can actually SING without 27 layers of vocal processing and pitch correction, unlike the Britneys and that other Jessica and the other cookie-cutter pop tartlets. And they (gasp!) play their own instruments-- acoustic guitars. They're Gibson poster girls (well, nobody's perfect!)and I've heard some early buzz that this will be a monster album--maybe not necessarily in sales, but in content. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm curious why they chose the name "The Wreckers?" I don't know, but I have some interesting theories...

There's an article on them in the latest Guitar World Acoustic, too. Michelle Branch, especially, reminds me of young Ann Wilson, who (back in the day) reminded me of my first true love. You know the one. It was white-hot, like a supernova. If you'd have stayed with her, you probably would have ended up killing each other--but, boy, it would have been one hell of a ride!

Yeah--can you imagine an ad featuring those two young traffic-stoppers playing Ovations? I bet there'd be a definite sales spike-- at least among male pickers and grinners.

"I'm curious why they chose the name "The Wreckers?" I don't know, but I have some interesting theories..."

---From what I read over a year ago they were playing a few shows together with Jessica opening for Michelle. The road crew called them 'the home wreckers' in jest because they are so beautiful, and they were gaining male fans rather quickly. They cut it down to 'the wreckers' for short.

I covered their first single in a trio gig that I did with two female singers. It was a simple song called 'the good kind', which was released as a single on a tv show soundtrack (The OC?-dunno, I don't watch it) back in Nov 04' (I think), and the crowd seemed to dig it. The harmonies were cool. That song is on itunes, and I believe I got an acoustic version there as well.

Johnny--

You just corroborated my main theory-- I sorta figured it had something to do with "Homewreckers!" Hope they stay away from MY home, because I think my resistance level would be pretty low! Actually, "Wreckers" is a great name. Kinda edgy, in addition to the obvious "homewrecker" connotation.

A 13-year old lives in my household, and I will not forget the day she asked me to purchase Michelle Branch's album, "Hotel Paper." Almost 1 1/2 year later, she still plays it with her player in her room, but I will not forget the time she played that CD too much that it almost drove me nuts.

Honestly though ... of all the CDs in her current collection, I prefer listening to Michelle Branch's music over her stacks of ... (umm... posting them names ain't necessary). :D
