No big deal, but then the guy argues with me and said that I never said "1778". (I'm a little ticked about that) I never wanted the chrome machines - I wanted the gold ones to match up with the ME12 I'm still planning on. So, I obviously know which guitar I asked for and he just wasn't paying attention. Anyway - I thought the LXs were coming with the Contour bowl - and the 6778 I saw yesterday didn't have it. So, which ones are coming with the contour bowl? I can't figure it out from the sales brochure I have.

While snooping around on that site, I fell in love with another 12 string with a "Bearclaw" top - I haven't seen that one before! (anybody know the whole story about those? are they special orders or a thing of beauty from the past?) Here's pics: http://www.ovationtribute.com/Acoustic%20Series/12%20Strings/Custom... (I need to enable my html so I can make pretty links like the rest of you, huh?) Sally

When you go to ovationguitars.com and the first page comes up - click on the picture of the contour bowl and it leads you to a place where you're supposed to be able to find out more info, but I just hit dead ends. Until seeing that long book pricing, I didn't know this was a whole 'nother guitar. Thanks for the info. Sally

I'm sure that MWoody will be glad to tell us the story of that outstanding 12 strings guitar. ;) (anybody know the whole story about those? are they special orders or a thing of beauty from the past?) Beautiful guitar (and the others behind it aren't bad, either!) LX guitars come both with contour bowl and without....even if you had gotten the 1778, it likely would not have had the contour bowl unless you ordered it specifically. Go back to the dealer and tell him you want a 1778LX with a contour bowl...SPECIFICALLY. Doesn't sound like this dealer is too "with it". Don't think the number will change....I've already seen and played a 1777LX Legend with a contour bowl. Roger

Joined: December 2003 Posts: 13996 Location: Upper Left USA | A little Chronology: Ordered a Custom Elite LX 12 with Top upgrade from Al. Picture Gallery goes down. Guitar arrives. I take several pictures - mind you pictures and not photographs, e.g.; busy backgrounds, shadows, etc. I stay up too late and post there's no Elite LX 12 Contour bowls on Jerome's site. Jerome posts pics. Is this my Mother's day gift? Thanks J! I hope to have some "Photographs" to share as soon as I can coordinate sunlight, landscape and free time! The top is a Bearclaw Spruce and the bling is Abalone. The instrument is still teaching me how to play it!

There's a relatively short stack of "Bearclaw" next to tall stacks of "A","AA", and so on. I'm sure they save the bearclaw for special orders and unusual future projects. The factory pays a premium for better wood, and so must we. I'm sure that you can special order any kind of wood you want for the top...as long as they have it. John <>{

Joined: March 2006 Posts: 1634 Location: Chehalis, Washington | Mike's 12-string is absolutely GORGEOUS! I can testify to that one, although anyone going on the tour is probably going to get an eyefull as well. Plays like melted butter...(or insert your own analogy). ;)

I did order and pay the upgrade but I can't help feel that because I know someone that knows someone I got an amazing top on this one. If I only knew how to play!
