Several decades ago a reporter friend of mine thought he'd pay for a warm holiday by freelancing from Beirut. So he bought the plane ticket, checked into his hotel, and went to find some shooting from which to report live.

For two weeks he hiked, cabbed, asked around...
Twice, he heard shooting in the distance.

Meanwhile, back home, North American newscasts were covered in stories of the shooting and slaughter in the streets of Beirut.

In two weeks, all he got was two human interest stories from people who had relatives killed recently.

Moral of the story: The story is always much smaller than the 6 O'Clock news would have you believe. I'm betting most of New England is still relatively dry.
;)
