Well, i'm going to whine a bit.

I have had my Guild M20 since the late 60's. It was thrashed when i bought it for $35 and i have thrashed it further since then. But i did have the frets replaced &/or dressed and the neck reset.

In the last three years i have really devoted myself to the guitar -- as much as i can, what, with having a family and full time job. Before that i just dabbled 6 months at time. Would get frustrated, put it away for a year or so, try again -- and so on.

All of my years with this guitar, especially the last three are treasured and ingrained in my muscle memory. This is a SMALL guitar, short scale, narrow, thin neck. So that is what i know.

Anyway my teacher told me to get a real guitar -- for my benefit of course. So i started shopping. Bought a Martin 000-28EC and never really bonded with it. Found it too damn big, couldn't fret it properly, so it sat and the Guild got played.

Enter O's -- i just fell in love with the sound of these guitars -- i now have three. But they were going the way of the Martin. Loved to hear them, just couldn't play them worth a damn. I would put them down and pick up the Guild and just fly over the frets.

Well, i said to myself, "self, this shit has to stop!" So today, i put the M20 in it's case, locked it, and put it away. If i am going to learn to play a new guitar i have to dedicate myself to it. The '95 Collectors is now my "beater" -- i need to put a dent in this pristine thing so i'm not so damn paranoid everytime i take it outside.

Good bye my dear, dear friend. You will be missed and forever loved. Your stand will remain vacant to remind me of our love. (until i fill it with an Adamas -- no, just kidding friend, i'll get another stand)

Thanks for listening.

Good story but it sounds to me like you need to pick up a '97 collectors parlor sized Ovation guitar.

I think it would be exactly what you are looking for.

Got one for sale? :)

Actually, i am enjoying the transition -- not that hell is a nice place to be, but it has great company. The things that get me are things like; going from first to tenth position and ending up on ninth (ouch!!!!), muting the high E w/ my palm (yuck), buzzing the note because i'm too high in the fret, etc. Annoying, but in 6 months it will be over --- i hope.

Hell, it better be or that 1537 i bought from you will be sitting in it's case -- and that would be criminal for such an outstanding guitar. Now wouldn't it?

No, mine is a wide neck but the narrow necks show up on ebay every now and then and they usually go in the $600 range. Based on your description, this would be a perfect guitar for you.

Sally was over a couple days ago and really really really tried to pry mine loose from me but I am just not ready to sell.

Considered by some to be the best collectors series guitar made.

I'm thinking I recall Tony C saying he might be selling his....not sure if it is narrow or wide but you should try to find a narrow if you want something similar to the M20.

If you love the Guild so much just play it, piss on what the music teacher said. I still use my 000Martin as my main live guitar just because its so easy to play. I never pick it up around he house, The balladeer is my main front porch guitar. I hope to playing a wide neck Ovation in the next couple of weeks, am needing a wider neck than the Martin, And like you i like the Ovation sound.

Back to the 1997 Collectors (Parlor size). If there is one of the WIDE NECK versions for sale out there, I would sure like to know about it. Like it was stated a couple post ago, the narrow ones show up every month or two but the wide necks seem to all be in good homes with tight grips wraped around them.

Stephen's quote: Good story but it sounds to me like you need to pick up a '97 collectors parlor sized Ovation guitar.

HEY! Haven't you guys heard that size matters for your gender?!?!?!?

That darn '97 was the CUTEST darn LITTLE thing. Comfy for girls. Too nice. It's definitely a girly guitar. DEFINITELY a girly guitar - that none of you guys have any business considering. LOL :)

I'll be bugging Stephen to sell that thing on a regular basis. The poor sweet little thing doesn't deserve to be in one of his closets that look like guitar file cabinets. :)

It's Girly. Remember that.

:)
