Location: New Hampsha | In the Fender world, there are one or more people who happily slurp up Strats and Teles and then parts 'em out - making what I assume is a profit as the sum of the parts is worth more than the whole. The most visible on the 'bay is The Stratosphere.
I think that Ovations have reached a similar position. I've been searching for a unit that has been sat on so I can practice surgery and replace the top. I'm amazed at what these Ovation carcasses are fetching.
I'm finding that it would be cheaper to buy a serviceable guitar, have the once-in-a-lifetime pleasure(?) of sitting on it myself, and then replace the top I just destroyed.
So "parts-ing out" older Ovations may be viable as the sum of their parts is worth more than buying the guitar intact!
I'm thinking business opportunity, here! |

There are some misguided souls who might say that I'm well-equipped!
The image of my Great White descending on a defenseless guitar is admittedly disturbing... |

Location: New Hampsha | If your conscience is up to it, it must be a goldmine. The one Fender decomposer gets $50 for a Squier neck and $60 for a body and $25 for the rest of the trinkets by pulling apart a guitar that he couldn't sell whole for $90. Mexican and 'Murrican parts bring even more.
I can't bring myself to kill a guitar, but I really frustrated trying to find a dead one to bring back to life.
Maybe I should change my name to Dr. Frankenstein? |
