Well it finally got here without any major delays. It is as good as I had anticipated and sounds like the one I played up at the local shop.

And the bonus; was getting the Op Pro in lieu of the OP 30. Seems that Ovation specify the 30 but have released a heap of them with the OP Pro.

Now the neck Truss adjustement bolt;

I see inside the bowl 2 hex head bolts that are in line with the neck

Top one is obscured by another hex at right angles (looks to enter the fret board where it starts to go over the top); this neck bolt does not appear to be accessible given the location of the other hex that obscures it.

Bottom one goes in to the foot of the neck where it flares/thickens (forming a heel) and buttresses into the lower part of the bowl (there has to be a name but I don't know it) . This is easily accessible.

Which one has to be adjusted to ease or tighten the neck?

None of those. The three inside the bowl are for the neck attachment. Two hold the neck in place. The third (going toward the fretboard) holds the upper neck support block in place (keeps the fretboard secured down). You would know this if you went on the tour !! :D

To adjust the neck relief, take off the truss rod cover at the headstock end of the neck. See photo below. Under there is the truss rod.

This is assuming you have the LX neck system, which you probably do, since you have the OpPro. If you don't have the truss rod cover, we probably need pictures.

Remove this screw.

Well how about that, I do have this plate covering up a hex bolt.

So this is the LX neck system.

Does this work the same way; can't find any mention of it in manual or Ovation's site, or google; just mentions that it has it.

Help!!!

And even less surprising is I missed the relevant section in the manual; Duuh!!

Probably too excited when it arrived and trying to get my heavy metal playing son, Sam, to hand it back to me and it; he said that he never thought an acoustic could sound so good. Then he went off to laugh at the Eurovision winners and play his new Tool 10000 days Album; which is great and I don't mind.

It seems that some adjustment is nescersary given the vastly different climate in the Tropics; even if it is notionally the dry season/winter.

And the 1778T is just great; I haven't bought something so absolutely good for a long time.

Sam's Maton Mastersound was a buzz but this is great plugged and unplugged (using an AER Compact 60)

And it's even better than when I bought a nail gun when doing some extensions.

So I will now give the guitar a few days to settle in and then adjust if nescersary.

Hobie...

I got my 1778T this Monday. I kind of went round and round about the neck/bridge system and the pre-amp.

The website is not completely accurate. The older model 1778T do not have the LX neck/bridge system. It does have the thinline pickup and come with the OP-30.

The more recent models have the LX neck/bridge system which has a six element pickup and comes with the OP-Pro.

I kind of came full circle. I originally had the version I wanted maybe a month or so ago but after e-mailing Ovation regarding the pre-amp, they told me OP-30, I thought that Guitar Center was doing some funny business so I returned it.

I went with another store but what they had was the older version with the thinline pickup/OP-30.

I returned that I just got a more recent model with everything I wanted which was what I had originally!

It has been quite an education!

Congrats on getting the 1778T... it is great sounding and great looking.

Yes it's great to have something this good, at a reasonable price.

And as my son says; people will be black or white about it as to whether they like it. Ovations aren't that common over in Australia or up North where I live.

And given that I continue to be overwhelmed by the looks to have something that plays better than it looks is,.... wow!!!
