I'm really coveting the W587t-7 on Al's site...

How does it differ from a W597? (and is it feasible/simple to switch the Optima out to an OP50?)

Ask Al.

Swapping Optima to OP50 is not straight forward.

I sent him a related e-mail on Monday, and still haven't heard back from him. :-/

You can't swap an Optima for an OP50. They use different shape cans and while Ovation can patch small holes in a body, it's too much.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaarnit. I really like working with the pre-shape sound.

So, what about taking an Adamas II, and swapping out the two-knobber for an OP50? :p

The new two knobbers sound awfully good. Is there something about the OP50 you can't live without?

I will try to answer, but well you know...the W587 is a deep bowl cutaway, semi textured top a/e. I say semi textured because I think it is between the original textured tops and the SMT smooth tops. The W681t-a that I bought on Ebay, has this type of top. The W681t-a is the best $400 bucks I spent for an Adamas. Of course it's acoustic only which might help.
hope it helps, plus the w587 Al has, is in color #7, my favorite. hope it helps mike

There're a few things about the OP50 that I really like; the preshape is great, but I really would like the 4-band EQ. I have one song in particular that needs a deep cut on the bass/lo-mids to sound right through a pickup. Also, I almost never play in standard tuning, so the onboard tuner is a must, too.

Maybe I should be looking at the 2080... the VIP may get close enough to what I need.

The best excuse I've heard for owning multiple guitars is so that you can tune each differently. Try that.

Sounds good, you can buy me a few! I'll start with Al's W587, and a 2080 and Adamas II should do me nicely in a week or so. ;)

I get to buy an Adamas for myself first. I haven't got that far yet, nor have I tried multiple tunings. I just heard someone else use that excuse.

How does someone go about having 10 Ovations (I almost ran out of fingers!) and not have an Adamas?

... and how does someone else go about not having an Ovation at all, and being on the OFC? :p
