just put a new set of elixir nanoweb phospher bronze strings on my ' 99 elite standard 6868 .

wow...very lively ..really awakened the tone on this guitar. very easy on the fingers too...

p.s. why is it when I catch a buzz I can never seem to get my guitar in tune?

I've never noticed my guitar out of tune when I catch a buzz.... Maybe it's the booze you drink?

I tried the elixir PB's but I did not care for them, they never settled down and were too bright and jangly for my tastes. I went back to the 80/20's, which start out a bit bright but mellow out nicely and last a long time.

I like the Elixir PB's on both my 1537 (mediums) and my FD14 (mixed set -- light mediums). But not on either my 87C or GCDB. I think I've got D'Addario lights on both of them right now.

Elixers are OK for slide playing but I'd rather have a set of 1818 or the exp equlivent for regular acoustic playing.

Anyone heard of another good deal on the 1818's like Music123 had last fall?

I'm due for another dozen or two.

Keep a watch on eBay. I was able to buy 20 sets for $50 shipped.

I've about used up my dozen sets of the 1818s. I've bought a couple guitars that came with new strings and haven't changed the old ones as often as I should have.

Wow....that Music123 sale was fantastic!

I bought like 40 sets....still have probably 20 of them. Wish I had bought 50 more.
