Can one of the ex-spurts please ID this top for me? Looks like something from Home Depot, but it's supposed to be a Collector's?

Tamo Ash

photo looks similar to the one on Tupperware\'s page

but quite different from the one on the Ovation page

Not a very flattering pic in any case!

The Tamo Ash was available in two "colors". One was a orangish-burst. The other was a darker brownish-burst. Dave

Thanks! Note to self: I must remember to make more use of Tuppy's site in the future.

Are those tops flat sawn to get that much grain runout? How does that impact sound quality and strength?

Some that I've seen look like flamed maple. I assume they are veneer, like most of those tops with the figured grain.

looks like you're right. never heard one so can't say anything about the sound quality. Ash is a hardwood, so hopefully flat sawn hardwood would be about as strong as quartersawn soft stuff.

Dave, I think your gallery might be ill. When I click on the photo link, it also opens another browser for the same gallery page.

Or is that particular irritation a "design feature"?

Yeah, it's on the "to be fixed" list. It works fine on some platforms and browsers, but has problems on others. The problem is usually when closing the photo, not opening it. I'll look into it. Dave

bauerhillboy,
Tamo (Japanese) Ash is found throughout southeast Asia. Rotary slicing of the log yields the figured veneer.

I have a couple 1992's. They look great in person as the figuring provides a visual effect of depth. They sound great plugged-in. Un-plugged... typical s/shallow bowl.
I also have a blue-Tamo topped EA68 which is eye-candy.
