I'm still playing the 2002 Collectors I got from Tony as my main squeeze. I play 'em all but that's the one that is grabbed most of the time. I quit going to Bend for that bluegrass thing a few years ago, but I've been playing once a week with one of the guys I met there. Dean lives 30 miles away so we alternate, one Thursday Dean would come to my place & we'd play in the shop & the next week I'd go to his place & we would play in his big garage. Then we picked up another old fart named Maynard. Now he & I take my van & go to Deans & we split the gas. I'm the kid at 58. Dean & Maynard are in their 70's. Both in great shape, Maynard still works full time at his carpet cleaning business. Dean could work but doesn't have to. It works out pretty well because Maynard lives just down the block. About six months ago we picked up another guitar player & good singer, Jack, who is also the County Sheriff. (Think Andy Taylor without the drawl.) He comes over every other Thursday when he can escape. Then Maynard's brother Ira started coming over & playing his mouth harp a few months ago. Tonight we had another new addition. Wes Tucker brought his electric bass over. Wes & Jack spent a lot of time together during the media blitz over his son Tom during the coverage of his kidnap & subsequent murder. Jack had to have Deputies on duty 24-7 for several weeks while CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX & several local stations had their news vans with the big satellite dishes on top parked across the street. I drive right past there on my way to & from work twice a day, it was a little News City. Jack & Wes got to be friends & it turned out Wes is a bass player. Jack invited him out to play with us & he came out tonight. (We had to move from Thursday to Friday this week because my wife's BUNCO squad was out there last night.) Wes is a really nice guy & a good bass player. He plays one of those bass guitars that looks like a big fiddle. With Dean playing most of the lead & me backing him up, Jack playing rhythm, Maynard trying to keep up as best he can, Ira twanging away, Wes on bass & four of us singin' old shit kickers we had a hell of a good time!

My condolences to Wes, glad to hear he's out having some fun. Nils, you should try to make it to the PNW OFC gathering August 19th in Portland! There's a thread about it floating around. Pretty good sized crowd expected.

The State Championship IHMSA meet is the weekend before that & that's going to pretty well wipe out my traveling money for a while. IHMSA is the International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association. We shoot pistols & revolvers at steel chickens, pigs, turkeys & rams at 50, 100, 150 & 200 yards (respectively). Here's a picture of my UAS (Unlimited Any Sight) gun. It's chambered for 7-30 Waters, which is a 30-30 rifle case necked to 7mm with the shoulder moved forward to hold more powder. I have swapped out the 2X Leupold scope for a 2.5-8X Leupold variable. Those half scale rams get pretty small at 200 yards. Here's my new elk gun- It's chambered in 45-70 Govt. (the cartridge on the left). The little cartridge on the right is a .44 Magnum. Notice it has four scope rings instead of two, it bucks a little. My wife & I have cow tags for a four month season. I've never shot an elk with a pistol, we'll see what happens.
