I know it's been said before, but I have to say it for myself...

:D :D :D WOW :D :D :D

Ovation's service department has outdone themselves. I sent back in a dinged and nicked 1869 with a cracked fretboard, and for under $300 they completely fixed all the issues and refinished the guitar to virtually like-new specs, and even restrung it with awesome strings!

Way to go Ovation!!!

I'm glad they have great service. I just wish they still made great guitars. I went into a mall music store this weekend and played a handful of $1,000 Ovations and they all sounded tinny and weak. None of the projection and clarity of an Ovation Legend from pre-1990. I have an '82 model 1624 that has the best tone. I wouldn't trade it for the world. You couldn't give me one of the new ones. It makes me really sad.

Damon,

First, welcome aboard!

Second, I had the same thought a while ago. I bought my 1869 in '95, and didn't pay much attention to Ovation's new stuff after that, until recently.

What I've found is that a lot of what the music stores carry is O's cheaper stuff - if it's not the imports, it's still not the "nicer" models. They also tend to inflate the prices beyond ridiculous, so checking out a $1000 guitar may not mean a whole lot in the real world.

Granted, a 25+ year-old guitar is just going to sound great. On the other hand, I own a couple mid-90's O's that sound great, and a newer 1778 that is fantastic. You just have to be picky!

Also, if you haven't already, check out the "Northwest OFC Gathering" thread in the general posting...if you want to play some FANTASTIC Ovations, this will be the place!

Damon,
Welcome.

Take a wander through Ted Brown in Tacoma. They stock well.

Better yet, meet with Edensharvest and myself. We'll hold an intervention!
