I had someone mention they owned a MOP. I then dug into the archives and see the term used a lot, but never describing what it is.

I am sure it is something crazy simple that I am not picking up on, but other than a sponge or wool tassle mounted on a long handle for cleaning floors, what is a MOP????

Are you sure he said MOP?

Might it have been MOB? Which is basically a Tangent in surf blue and short for "My Other Board"

MOB: a guitar for the surf board set.

They should have a MOB for the snowboard set. I think they're more of us. Or as kids call me:

I don't think, in the guit tar world, you can own a MOP. Your guitar may have MOP, but you can't have it. It's an adjective referring to material used to make inlays. Generally speaking, in guit tar parlance, MOP stands for Mother Of Pearl. Shards of oyster, or other bivalve shell cut and shaped for inlay work. It is somewhat expensive. The more MOP on the guitar, the more expensive it is. You pay for more 'bling.' Not to be confused with abalone which is from a monovalve creature's shell called an abalone. Abalone is pearlescent like MOP, but is blacker and even more expensive. On cheaper gutiars, such inlays are of cheaper plastic and sometimes, derisively, referred to as MOTS. Mother Of Toilet Seat.

My guit tar has MOP 'Epiphone' logo on the headstock, MOP marker dots on the fretboard, but MOTS body binding, side markers, saddle and bridge. My Harmony stella has a MOTS bridge and MODB fret board markers.
