Location: SoCal | Why I posted this is that I hadn't seen it on OvationGuitars.com; found on web when looking for something else.
As to Custom Legend, nothing has changed..."A" braced, AAA spruce. Hand picked? When someone picks up the wood and says this should be sunburst or black, then another that says this needs to be natural - seems to me that is "hand picked".
Heck, all models are "hand picked". How else do they pick the wood up?
The Al DiMeola and the CL LX have some differences with bracing, bowl, and neck that may or not make a noticeable difference.
As brainslag mentioned, AAA and A brace on Anniversary...also Patriot and some of the others, to include Collectors'. |

Location: CT | LOL, no. Look at this old brochure. The Custom Legend, and Anniversary had 'Sitka Spruce Hand Picked' in spec. page. Legend and Legend LTD. had 'Sitka Spruce AAA', but all had the Ovation A brace. The brace and top were listed separately, and no longer is the "Hand Selected" spruce top offered.

Mark L. writes up the production orders and then someone picks it off the shelf by grade. If you do a custom order and whine a lot (me) they'll go to the rack and pick a plumb for you!
Only about $300 upcharge (retail). |

Location: Warren,Pa. | There's quite a bit of subjectiveness in grading wood. The trees don't come with labels on them. You get a pallet of top sets and you go through them, visually checking each one for quality characteristics. My Std Elite would get one of the "lesser" tops; my Custom Legend would get one of the best out of the pallet.
Kim Keller once told me they had a run of top sets so fine that they made a large batch of Balladeers with Bearclaw tops! Nice to get one of those. John <>{ |
