Okay here is the scoop. When I purchased my 6778LX I had it set up with medium strings in DADGAD tuning.....if that matters. This was about 5 months ago.

Since then I've leaned more toward light (.11's) strings. However, when I changed to these lighter strings I'm getting some buzzing that I didn't get with the medium gauge strings.

So my question is: How do I get rid if the buzz?? Add a shim?
Adjust the truss rod, if so which way?

Any help would be great!!!!

I guess it depends where you are getting the buzz on the fretboard. Assuming that the frets are OK, you can go to the Ovation website and look at the owners manual for setup of the truss rod. It will give you the correct measurements off the fretboard. I'm sure there are a lot of guys here that know more about this than I do, so sit tight, and someone will give you better information.

The buzz is maily on the first three frets. If I capo on the 3rd fret it doesn't hardly do it at all.

When I had it setup I had them set it to the lowest action possible with no buzzing, and they did that.

Sounds like the neck needs just a bit of relief.

1/4 turn counter-clock, let it sit for a little while, then recheck.

You probably just need to put a little more "relief" in the neck to compensate for the string tension (or lack there of from the .011's) I believe you'll "loosen" the T-rod. LX's (Advanced Neck System) are super responsive and easy to adjust. Don't be shy. You probably only need 1/8th of a turn to get rid of the buzz.

All depends on which manufacturer. Some manufacturer's lights are 12's and some 11's.

D'Addario EXP26 custom light strings are .11's, most of the time yes, 12's are light and .11 are extra light.

I've never messed around with the truss rod. I just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong. I'll remove the cover on the headstock and turn 1/8. If I have the headstock in my hand looking down the neck I'll turn it to my left/counter clockwise.....right??

Just want to make sure it's like every other screw....left loosen, right to tighten.

Do I want the guitar in tune while adjusting, detune a lot or no strings at all?

Strung up and tuned up (or at least close) for proper tension.

Hi there, :) this is how I do it ;Bass E string -
#1 press down at 14th fret
#2 press down at 1st fret
#3 measure , with a feeler gauge , the distance string / fret at 7th fret , when it reads 1/38 inch,it should be good to strum without buzz, yet have reasonably light action with 11-50/52
When adjustment is needed, loosen strings (detune all peggs a few turns say ,3-4 turns )
turning trussrod (seen from neck to box )1/8 to 1/5 would do nicely
clockwise = tighten = decreasing distance string / fret
counter clockwise = loosen = increasing distance string /fret
With heavier gauge You may want to decrease distance (measured at 7th fret )
With lighter gauge the opposite
this is only a guide line, but maybe worth to try
I wish You Happy Strummin` ;)

Frank Ford is a wonderful source of information over at Frets.com . He has a very useful article on truss rod adjustment.
