Joined: July 2005 Posts: 9 Location: Pasadena Texas | I have been looking for a used resonably priced classical Ovation for awhile.Today I was in Guitar Center and stumbled on a black 1763 without case for $550.00. Serial # dates it to a 85 or 86 year model.Anybody have one or have any input on this guitar. The strings were alittle dead but the guitar was in very good shape and I thought it sounded pretty good.It has a deep bowl and a wide neck and a cutaway.Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I bet it's a beaut... I'd try to get them to throw in the case. GC is famous for stock-splitting. Things that came in in cases seldom get sold with it.

Somehow This one in black is OK and it looks great on stage...Anyway this nylon is not quite the 1613 in sound (so close you won't care) but if I am not mistaken it has a cedar top like the old classical I have. I got a great deal on mine, I bought it from a nice young lady who advertised it right here in the forum and we met near my home to do the deal. Pure Luck.... If the black top is in good shape this should always be worth every penny you say they want for it.

I picked up the 1763 and it is in GREAT shape.Only a little fret board wear at the first fret, first string. No scratches of dings anywhere.BUT...after I have spent a few days with it I'm not sure it's for me.Would anyone here be interested in it? I have 30 days before it has to go back to GC. I would rather see someone here get it than for it to go hang on a wall at GC.I spent about 2 hrs cleaning and restringing it and it really looks nice. You guys have been a big help to me with this guitar and a Millennium I bought last year so if I can help someone with getting this one it would be an honor.I would sell it for what I paid for it...$600.00 with an Ovation hard case. If anyone's interested, let me know.
