I've heard of the guitarist/musician on several occassions, but I really don't know much about his music. Any info. about him, and possible albums/music that you would recommend will be greatly appreciated.

I'll also get the opportunity to see Pat perform live, three weeks from now at Carnegie Hall. He'll be joined by Steve Reich and Musicians and the Kronos Quartet for an all-Steve Reich program, in celebration of the composer's 70th brithday. The program lists "Music for 18 Musicians," "Different Trains," and "Electric Counterpoint."

Mimimalist music (if there is such a genre) is one of the type that I appreciate and enjoy listening to. After watching my wife (fiance at that time) perform Terry Riley's "In C" with the ensemble she was with at that time, I got hooked! Steve Reich is one of the composers I admire in this category, along with Philip Glass.

I've seen the Kronos Quartet perform live in the past, and their shows have been very interesting. The first time I saw them, they played a piece by Stockhausen (I think). Each musician had 20 miniature pieces laid in front of them. They first played the first piece in unison, and then whatever miniature piece that their eyes laid on near the end of what they were playing will be the next one that they'll play. It was quite a trip to hear four different pieces playing simultaneously for the next 35 minutes! What made it more interesting was the tone and colors that came out of that performance would never be replicated if they would play it again on their next performance date! I consider them to be the "fab four" of the classical music world (IMHO), for championing modern pieces with the likes of George Crumb, Alfred Schnittke, Anton Von Webern, Arvo Part, and even Sigur Ros among others...

Any additional information(s), comment(s), opinion(s) that you can add/contribute will be greatly appreciated.

". . New Chautauqua is my favorite LP of his. . ."

Mine too.
"Airstream" is a gorgeous song.

The only problem that I have with Metheny albums, is that whenever Lyle Mays goes into one of those long, whine-y, sonorous synth solos . . . I hit the "Eject" button . . .

Thanks for the recommendations Dave and Cliff. Just ordered the CD at Amazon. Based on the previews alone, it sounds like a very good album.

Thanks again.
