Had a brief overnight visit from the worlds least loved PI. I realize now that we didn't take any pics or make any recordings. Oh well. Played plenty of guitar and pretty much exhausted our "Gee I really wish ..." kind of discussions. I don't want to put words in Pauls mouth but I think he was really stunned how nice the Academy guitar was. It really holds it's own compared to guitars 20x the price. Had a hard time dislodging the 47RI from his mits. I offered for him to take it to LA with him for awhile but I think he was uncomfortable carrying it in a car that's probably worth less than the guitar. I do believe I also heard him say "These Martins don't suck". Too short of a visit but it was good to get together. Dave

Sherlock's been gone a very long time now......oops; this post will need a p.i. to determine where it should have gone. Perhaps the Sherlockian Society.....

You guys are really funny.....

I had a great time at Dave & Julie's house. We spent about 3 hours looking at and playing guitars. As much as I'm impressed by the guitars in my house, I'm more impressed by his.

And by the way, he did offer to send home with me #47 of #47. I couldn't bring myself to take it, but then, I may be back in November......

And lastly, everytime I play one of the #47 RI's, I come away massively impressed by them. When and if the OFC guitar gets built, everybody should think about it, cost be damned. It really is that good....

Dave, did you hide your wife from him, like you did when I visited? I know I should have been flattered, but I knew you didn't want her to hear me tell her what a saint she must be for putting up with you.

An observation on another of Dave's guitar, his Book Elite. I've never been a fan of this guitar. It never looked right to me and I'm talking more that they gay looking outtie epaulets. The headstock, with the abalone around it never looked right to me. They never impressed me sound-wise either. I know, a number of you guys have them and love them, and I'm not trying to rain on your parade.

Well, Dave sent his back to the factory and had the neck and headstocked glossed (almost everything he has is glossed --- you should see his wife!). Man, the difference in the appearance was night and day! Suddenly, the headstock looked rich and more importantly, it looked right! The whole guitar came together in my eyes.

And the sound, don't ask me how, but the sound was much richer sounding..... It was amazing!

"take her while she's smiling..." Boy Bill, I think about that and think of all the times I was slow and she stopped smiling, and of course, it was too late.....

I'm pretty damned certain, even tho' I'll have to pay for it over a couple of years, that I'll get an OFC'er when it comes out. They are THAT good, and it may be a once in a life time opportunity.

I couldn't tell a difference between the sound of an 87 Collectors' and the Book Elite, but I liked the looks of the 87 better.

I was wondering what 3.1415926535 was doing wandering around in the desert.

That glossed headstock looks muy better.
