Last Friday my 87 year old , 100 pound father called me up on the phone to tell me that he had just been Carjacked at gunpoint ( for the Detroit people Eastland Mall ) He is safe and was not hurt so that is the important thing , but what a coward , druggie ,loser , feels like a He man and is proud of his catch when he beat and 87 year old man out of his car by using a gun to do it . My first reaction is one of total anger and I want a shot at this guy , but then I try to look to the positive ... my father wasnt hurt and this As&%ole got what he wanted and soon will get caught doing this crap one of these days and will have to answer to his boyfriend in a jail cell. On a brighter note my Dad broke his walking stick over the guys head in the process of giving up his car . The police gave him cudos for him fighting for his cause but said that you are very fortunate that it happend to end that way. Sorry guys I just needed to vent and it really hits home when I think what could of happened, ( thats what bothers me ). Thanks I am feeling better now . GWB

But the cops were right... your Dad is lucky he was not hurt....or worse. I had to by the Eastland Mall a couple days ago. It doesn't look like a bad area but I guess that don't mean anything. For all you out of towners, Eastland Mall is on 8 Mile Road. Yep...Emimem's 8 Mile.

Someone tried to carjack him once, didn't make it too far. 'Course, I don't recommend that, but it seemed like an effective deterrent.

(And that doesn't involve horses and teepees for you big city guys.) I'm glad Dad got the satisfaction of breaking his stick over the guy's head. At 87 he probably figured his satisfaction and his car was worth more than his life. I hope I have that much spunk at 87.

I commented on an earlier thread that the reason that armed car jackings has escalated is because cars are a lot harder to steal (security systems, smart keys, etc). In the old days (1980s) you could steal almost any car with a hammer and a large screwdriver in about 90 seconds. Those days are over. So now the dope head (or joy rider, fleeing felon, whatever) finds it easier to stick a gun in someone's face than to mess with all the new technological anti-theft systems. See, everything comes with a price.

He drove himself to the hospital and he will be okay. My son was robbed last summer while working construction on one of the new downtown casinos. Scary stuff.

She had just cashed her check and had the cash in her purse. the kid snatched the purse but mom did not let it go. she was banged up and bruised but virtually ok. The cops brought a couple of kids around for my mom to ID and she could not positively id them so she let them go. mom could have pinned it on anyone. I really hate people that prey on the elderly sick of feeble minded. it is just wrong. glad your old man was ok. next time tell him to break the cane over the guys nuts.
