Location: Phoenix | Argh, my 1868 is getting some fairly deep grooves in a few frets. Can anybody recommend a shop in Nashville or Hendersonville that does good fret work at a reasonable price --and fairly quickly too, hopefully less than a week turnaround time.

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I don't know about the turn around, but Ovation I believe still uses proprietary frets, and just on principle I wouldn't have anyone else touch an Ovation unless I knew they were very familiar with them. |

Yes, Nashville has a fair number of music stores, but not all of them do high-quality work. For a "weekend warrior" musician, I'm not sure if Nashville is quite as "happening" as you would think.

Location: Phoenix | I'm not sure exactly when the frets must be replaced (versus merely dressing them). Many years ago I had a Precision bass with worn frets, I thought it needed new frets but a guy in South Carolina was able to dress them and it came out great, I think it cost $50 or maybe $75. But the wear on these frets on the 1868 look a good bit deeper than on the old P-bass.
I have noticed recently that the capo doesn't always give a clean sound on the first string on the first couple of frets, maybe it's cause that's where there's some serious wear. |

Location: Phoenix | Okay, I took the guitar to Cotten Music. They said they don't do fret work and referred me to Classic Ax on Music Row. The guy there said the frets would dress out without replacing them, and that's included as part of his $79 setup. So while the guitar is there...I'm gonna splurge and have a bone nut installed. Call me crazy, but I put a bone nut on a Yamaha acoustic years ago and I thought it added more "something" (to my tin ears at least).
