Asking for opinions as to brand and type of strings to use, as this is my first carbon fiber top. My palms are sweaty already!

I like them as well or better than the Martin SPs I have on a couple other guitars. Don't touch that guitar with those sweaty palms or we'll have to take it away from you.

My SlotHead's got D'addEJ16's(lights). They seem to "work" on that particular guitar. While I'd probably get more "oomph" out of it (which is a scary thought) with med.'s, this particlular top "responds" well to the 16's . . . Bill's LongLegg DScale had a set of AdamasLights on it and it sounded really good, with a good "thump". I thought that I could possibly increase/enhance that by going up to EJ17's. It seems that a good part of that orginal "thump" came from the fact that th'strings was old. The mediums actually make it sound "brighter" than the lights did. I suspect it'll sound a little better once they been "broken in" with a pizza or two . . .

Next thing is we will start talking hours of delivery and whether we were numbed or went natural! Just don't go there! Phospher Bronze in the same metalurgic recipe for Bell Bronze will give the most amazing sound. The problem is that you immediately start deteriorating as soon as they are installed. So... you compromise by either changing the chemistry or coating the string. How much of which compromise are you willing to take. I don't want to change strings too often so I go with 80/20 PBs. I like the D'Addarios in Medium but lately I am using the EXP 11's because I bought a box of them and I got a free guitar.

I am kind of partial to the Adamas strings (1717 or 1818) and the Martin 80/20 bronze. I just don't know how light you can go with that top, and not loose tone quality. I have tried the D'Addario coated strings, and didn't like them at all. Like Moody said, "subjective"

For the 597, I like the bluegrass set - a little heavy but really brings out the bass end of the instrument. www.webstrings.com $2.75 a set for a dozen sets and free shipping vis USPS. I've found that the coated EXP's last me a lot longer between changes, and the sound is much brighter and more resonant. How much difference there'd be on a deep body I'm not sure, but I can sure tell on the SSB.

However, when I got my 597, and then the 2080,I tried Elixirs and they seem muted compared to the 1818's. In fact, I had one set of Elixir's left that I just put on the 2080 and I don't like them at all. I don't really strum hard, but lately I have two at our Wednesday night service since we don't plug in. The Elixir's seem to "die" if I apply anything more than light force, where the 1818's just seemed to sing a bit louder and clearer if that makes sense. I will be going back to the 1818's when I feel like I have gotten some of my money out of the Elixirs, unless someone convinces me to try something else. But I do like the Elixir's on my 1537...don't know why the difference. By the way...has anyone tried the Martin Light Phosphur/Bronze? String this has them bulk for a bit over $2 a set. Seems pretty cheap, but then you may get what you pay for.
