went to the Slydog Ovation lending library and vintage shop today....(have to fix his new Vista Machine) go figure...,

and borrowed a very nice 15 yr old 6868 Elite in Vintage burst with 1 piece maple epaulets, FET3 preamp, and a natural finish(oiled) neck, basic plain jane model with no fretmarkers, bookmatched neck and top, and is probably one of the prettiest finishes I've seen on an Elite.

I love the Natural finish neck, and it sounds really nice... granted a shallow bowl, but this basic workhorse shows its stuff pretty well..

it has the 5 ply multi colored binding like on the 1718 models too.. pretty guitar, easy low action, and looks good even with the outies.

stock photo is here:

but I think this one's a lot prettier.. and sounds as good as they get for a shallow.

I'll get some photos of this one up tomorrow.

Glenn, what do you think of the FET3 preamp? My 1860 has one of these and I play it plugged in most of the time and it sounds good to my untrained ear. But I'm interested to know how it compares to the other preamps out there.

Reminds me of the 6768 I recently bought. Looks just like it. You don't see much about it, and it's not listed in Ovation's archived items. It's pretty much a 6868 with a deep bowl.

It's currently with a great local guitar guy for some fret tweaking and a few other things. I think it's gonna be a nice one when it's done. Sure do miss it.

Ack! Trying to find what I want on the Ovation Guitars website just drives me nuts. And I thought Martin numbers were hard to figure out...

So I'll just ask you guys: 6868 is a shallow (not super shallow?) bowl. 6768 (not noted on %#@* website) is a deep bowl — cutaway? My question is, did ovation make a mid-bowl edition of this guitar, WITH outies?

I wish I could help more; but here's the little I know about the 6768 I've owned about a month. It's a deep bowl cutaway with outies. I don't know if there's a mid bowl. When I googled the 6768 I only saw a couple of them and both were listed in Japan in Japanese. I haven't seen many around, and don't even know if they were made as exports or not.

I'll vouch for Slydog. His description of my purchase was spot on and his price was great.
