Location: Reno, NV | I just switched the strings on my 1771LX from the original stock strings to Elixir Polyweb Lights. The first thing I notice is how bright the sound is. Its very strange compared to what I was used to on the stock strings. I would describe it as bright and metallic, sort of "robotic" for a lack of better words. Is this a normal sound for these strings? Its so much different. Especially on the A and E strings. The stock strings sounded smooth and "warm" in comparison.
So this leads to other questions. Were my stock strings warn out which made them dull sounding in comparison? Or is that the way they were designed to be?
Also, assuming there is huge differnce in string tones, whats the point listening to guitars in the shop when you are shopping when a $5.00 strings change will change the guitar so dramatically? It leads me to believe that showroom decisions based on sound mean very little. |

I wouldn't buy a guitar without first having the store do a fresh setup on it, including new strings. My experience has been that they are very cooperative with that request. |
