Lots of talk about KOA lately. Andrews Koa 12-string is really nice. Many are waiting with great anticipation for the Lost Arts Vintage Koa Special. Here's my own take:

Sorry this isn't an Ovation, and sorry to boast, but... This here little number is quickly becoming the main horse in the stable. Amazing sound and playability. I just can't keep it to myself how much I like this guitar. Spruce top, Koa back and sides (guitars have sides?). 12 fret, 1-3/4 nut slothead. Yummy ...

Go ahead and spank me for it not being an Ovation. I promise the next Koa guitar photo I post WILL be one.

Stephen, yes...D-15S (slothead)- mahogany. Trade from Nick.

Surprisingly, a sweet guitar, far above the non-slothead D-15.

Vic, if talking about the D-15S, they made it out of mahogany or sapele. The mahogany is a pretty dull satin but it does buff out well. Low end of the Martin line but the slothead is very nice. Guess I just like the unique woods. Warm, strong projection, and strong bass.

Had a D-18 12-str for over nine years, glad I found the CL 12-str back in 1980.

I've also been looking at the 000-15S.

Martin slotheads do have a nice sound.

The satin mahogany finish gives them a vintage look.

Martin does a nice job on the headstocks. The angles are cut just right and the strings never touch wood, trc, or anything. Very nice and clean. The only thing you need to be careful i sthat the insides of the "slots" aree also nicely finished, especially on the glossed necks, and if you are not careful when stringing/unstringing you can scratch the finish with the cut end of the string. Yes.......the D15 slothead. That's the one I was thinking of because I almost bought one about a year ago before I ended up with the Norman Blake Ltd Ed.

I really like the sound of the D15 Slothead and it is at a decent price. They go for almost full price (even when used) on ebay.
