As some of you may recall, I came on as a new user a few weeks back. I've been in the market for a new acoustic for some time and was prepared to buy a Taylor 814ce despite the fact that IMHO it lacked lows and was a better fingerstlye guitar than a pick guitar. Then fate stepped in and I talked to my aunt who owns an O that I'd played more than 20 years ago but had kind of forgotten about.

Well, did some research, found a couple of Os to play locally, including a DiMeola. Also found this site and did a lot of reading and asked some questions.

I ended up ordering a C2078LX-RTD never having heard or played one. It arrived this evening.

The verdict? :D The guitar looks and sounds great! Very balanced tone wise. The action and playability is every bit as good, if not better than, the best Taylor's I played. The contour bowl is very comfortable and the sound overall is excellent. I am just very, very impressed with this guitar. I'm even happier that it is less than half the price of the Taylor I was going to buy.

I am getting a Genz Benz Shen 60 to go with it for my birthday/Christmas. Can't wait to hear it plugged in.

Congrats! You'll need to post some pics. I'm not familiar with the RTD designation...

RTD=Rural Transit District............................................................................................... or maybe red tear drop, but I personally like the first choice better.

Man, that's one tired looking old man in that picture..... but the guy in the second picture looks great, just like the guitar.

We can't wait for you to hear it plugged in either. If you think it sounds good acoustically (which it definitely does), just wait till you hear it plugged in! Oh my gosh ...

I will post pics tomorrow. However, it looks just like the one in the pic mtnbikefred posted; AWESOME! And yes, I can't wait to hear it through the Shen 60 either.

Yup I was exhausted, but I could still remeber that 4th chord :p :D :p :D

Hey "A777", Play-Away!! It's a great guitar. Wait till youget it plugged in. What pre-amp is in yours? Mine is currently on assignment with my brother-in-law. He says it's the nicest guitar he's ever played.

It was definitely a joint effort (as always) but I will admit to playing a small part... :D

Awesome choice, man! Definitely post pics when you get the chance. And be sure to do a review on the Shen when you get it. I haven't had the chance to play one myself, so I'm curious how you like it.

If Noah, Moody, and I spent more than a few minutes together at our local GC, we could serious change the face of guitar sales in South O.C. People are selling them selves on what ever they see on stage, TV, and (gasp) church, and it aint good... Don't get me wrong. I've played some very nice MaTayAvee's. I may try to steal a Martin D15S or OMC15C Someday, and don't even get me startedon Jeff's Lowden. I just don't think they're $3K nice.... I helped my buddy Steve pick out a guitar, warned him I was highly biased, played a S771-4C next to a $2499 cedar topped Taylor, and he said, why is "that one" so much more expensive!? He decided he loved the contour bowl and bought a 2005 Collectors (Thanks Al). All are welcome in the "state of enlightenment"

My observation has been made numerous times, but at GC's, you can go in the high end room and play $4000 Martins, but in the main room, the only Ovations you can play are the ones by the floor. The high end ones are up high. If you don't know better, you'd think that all Ovations sound like Celebs. There's no easy way to compare high end wood topped O's with anything else. And if you talk to any salesman at the GC, they won't ever point somebody in the direction of high end O's. I've just never seen them do it.

Either people go into Guitar Centers knowing what they want in the way of O's or they will never buy one without some other customer in the store pointing them in that direction. The whole set up is stacked against Ovations there.....

Really is, and you should see the stockpile of wood guitars they have now (gearing up for the holidays) - every wall hanger taken, and stands so thick on the floor you can't hardly walk. Martins, Taylors, Breedloves, Takamines, etc. The Ovations? Cheap Celebrity's all around in the front room, with a couple LX models and deeper bodies way up high. Couldn't reach them if I tried, and to be sure no one is going to go out of their way to recommend them.

I was definately leaning towards an O when I found this sight. After much reading, several questions and a chance to play a few of them again; the decision was an easy one.

Andrew referred me to the folks at Sounds of Praise Music. They provided very good service, a great price and a phenomenal setup on the guitar.

KayDee, the Shen 60 is going to be a birthday (Dec.18)/Christmas present from my wife. She has all the contact info. I just have to wait.

Same situation at GC here. All the Os are on the wall with the few US made ones up high. There are about 3 rows of other brands on stands in front of them, so they are tough to reach.
