What a day. After the huge drag of getting a write-off Applause from ebay, I went forth into the real world and stopped in at a small consignment shop near me where I happened to find the Ovation of my dreams. Not just any Ovation; A vintage Glen Campbell USA-made 12 String. The price? Priced to sell at $199.99.
When I can tear myself away from this beaut long enough to research it, I'll supply more detailed information but for now, here's a few photos. I couldn't be happier. Thanks to everyone for your posts - especially to Jason who offered to sell me his '71 Balladeer project for a very fair price. This GC was a deal I absolutely couldn't refuse. I'm looking forward now to really chewing the fat here now that I got my Ovation.

Nice guitar. I'm a little confused what model it is. Body looks like an older Glen Campbell 12 string with a winged bridge. Nice. But I'm puzzled about the neck. A 12 fret paddle headstock, non 5-piece neck w/ binding and GC style inlays. Very nice looking guitar. Dave

Good grief, Osterman! You went from being the new Applause guy with the funny name to the new Ovation freak with the awesome guitar. Great job, and I guess we'll have you to kick around for a while. A good deal for everyone.

Jason, thanks for being a good guy.

Sheesh! What else does that "small consignment shop near you" have?

Nice score!

I'm with you Dave. Nice score for sure, but the paddle headstock on a 12 fret neck, and a winged bridge? Seems like a one-of-a-kind. Almost like someone threw a bunch of spare parts into an Osterizer ...

It has Schaller tuners and a rounded triangular volute where the headstock meets the neck.

The neck doesn't seem like an add-on (there's no marks that would indicate that sort of work) but I can't say for certain.

Thanks folks! I just lowered the action as it was a tad high (hard to tell at first). Fortunately Ovation already did it for me as there was a shim under the saddle - all I had to do was take it out and drop the saddle back in. Very delicate though - it bent and almost snapped in half between my fingers but it's still in one piece. I stored it away for the time being.

It was a great deal but I should mention that there was no case. I know what I'm asking for for Christmas...

Looking closely, I can see that it had been carefully maintained over the years. It looks like a chip of the bridge fell off at one point and had been very carefully reglued.

Also on the treble side of the body, there's about 4 inches around the bottom where the bowl seems to be slighty separated from the top by a hair but perhaps (?) held in check again with some almost unnoticeable gluing.

I'm surprised at how loud a guitar this is.

Earliest ones had small hole, later they had full sized hole.

Awesome score, Oster.....
I'm from Canada (Alberta) and I've never got that lucky. $200 Canadian, that's like $30 U.S.
Where you from?

Oster, you still need an Ovation 6 string. Don't expect to get as good a deal on one of them or you might be too old to play by the time you find it. If you do find a 6 string like it, I don't want to know. No one should be that lucky more than once.
