...So I'm checking out Ebay to get a realistic price on my Eclipse and I come across this:

Hammond Condor by Ovation

I'm a sucker for stuff like this - anyone got experience of one, or more info?

Cheers

might be a good way to get one of those guitars cheap. The Hammond boxes never worked right I don't think.

The problem is you're only getting half the goods. You need the cool hammond suitcase organ to go with it. I've seen the total package offer twice before on ebay and I think it went for something over $1000. Dave

I have a few of the condor units around.
they have their limitations but have some useable sounds.

You're right Dave, THIS CONDOR has been sold on Ebay for 1750$ 2 years ago.
I remember it well because it was the first time I saw one of these guitars with the organ!!!

I think Baldwin had a guitar like this also but it had all those tap (rocker) switches built right into it to choose different vibrato's and those old synth sounds. They looked like fun!Called a Gitorgan ro something?? One went on Ebay last year I bid on but I had no idea what it may be worth. I bid $400 it went for $800. Had a shape and look kinda like a nice old gibson 335 semi hollow. Wonder how many other companies actually made one of these??

As cwk2 eluded, the Condor organ part was not very reliable, but... once you get it working, as Alpep mentioned, it does have some cool sounds and works pretty well. The "pickup" is 6 individual pickups that send the signal to the Condor box. It was way ahead of its time really. It does track pretty well too.

I don't recall if I still have mine or not :( I haven't seen it in awhile.

yup I know how to use it.
the pickup replaces the brdige of the guitar. this also houses the pickup and is how the signal is transfered to the outboard unit.
the box has a bunch of organ rocker switches with organ stop sort of names.
most of them were rather drab much like most keyboards of that era with the same rocker switches.
I forget which ones exactly but some had some very useable sounds. I remember liking the octave in particular.

remember that all these early synth type units glitch and the tracking is horrible. you have to alter your technique to actually use the unit to its fullest limited potential.
there are NO sounds you can get without the outboard box contary to what the auction says.

Yeah - thanks!

So it's basically a Storm series guitar, with the synth interface / controller but no organ, yes?

I think I'll pass.
