I didn't think it'd be tough getting a band together. My drummer is a flake. He's also probably the best in the band(I use this term loosely as he never comes). Well anyway, I take the guff 'cause I'm the "call everyone for the time" guy, and I am not going to call the guys over if we can't all make it, that kinda defeats the purpose- to me at least.

Anyway.. just had to vent on that.

Zappa plays Zappa coming in December... anyone else going to see it?

Just come up with a fixed day and time. One that works for everyone, like once a week: Thursdays at 6:00. Sometimes stuff is bound to come up, but now it's on them, and not you to schedule. After a while, you know who's committed, and who's not.

It could be worse, 72. Your daughter could be living with a drummer.

72, now you are learning why the movie This Is Spinal Tap is a real documentary, not fiction...

I've been reading Neil Peart's (the drummer from Rush) new book, and he had a few drummer jokes in there:

What do you call someone who hangs out with musicians? .... A drummer.

What did the drummer get on his S.A.T.'s? ..... drool.

I was a bad drummer before I became a bad guitarist, so I'm allowed.

By the way, it's not just drummers who are flakes to work with. Trust me on that one!!!

Actually, he's a very good author. He's written several good "traveling" books. My favorite one is called "The Masked Rider" which is about a bike tour he did in Africa. It's good stuff, especially for a Rush fan like myself.

So, you're saying, Don't judge a book by it's author?

I’ve just recently started reading a REALLY good book entitled “Here, There & Everywhere” by Geoff Emerick.
Emerick was the Engineer on a goodly part of the Beatles’ recordings, and he offers a lot of really good first-hand insight to the recordings themselves, the people involved, and “the times” in which they were made.

Strangely enough, this guy was FIFTEEN years old, right out-of-school, and working his SECOND day of his FIRST job (as an Asst. Engineer) at EMI (before it was “AbbeyRoad”), when he sat in on the very first Beatles recording session of “LoveMeDo”, and was a first-hand eyewitness to Ringo being replaced by session-drummer Andy White for the recording.

He worked as Asst.Eng. on sporadic Beatles sessions (amongst others) in the early days, and then became their Engineer on “Revolver” (when the original Engineer left to work with a fledgling PinkFloyd) and continued on until (I think) "AbbeyRoad” where he quit when he couldn’t take their endless bickering . . .

If you’re fan of the Beatles (or of recording), I highly recommend this book . . . .

That sounds like a great book. I'll have to check that out. I've been on a bit of a Beatles kick lately. I saw "Imagine - John Lennon" on one of the cable channels recently and it's renewed my interest in them. I'd love to get a copy of the movie "Let It Be". It's kind of sad because it shows the band literally starting to break up, but it is very interesting and there are some great musical moments in it. It's been out of print for quite some time.

I'll bring it to one of your gigs.

Thanks Cliff! I'd appreciate it. It's been years since I've seen it.
