| Hello everyone,
I'm new to the Ovation World of Guitars as of today by chance. Long story short is that my father hadn't spoken to me in over 13 yrs. and today we tried to break some ice and here's what happened. I play Washburn and Fender's and he knew that my 13yr. old Daughter plays a fiddle. For some reason he wanted us to have this Ovation a 1111-1 made in New Hartford Conn. its in the original case and I'm talking showroom perfect shape. Heck its in better shape than my Birdseye Jumbo Washburn. My question is... What is the guitar worth? My Dad is 78 and told us it was a nice one and to make sure we held onto it,which we plan to but I just wanted to know if its got any value money wise. I'm really happy for her to get it and wanted to know. Thanks in advance and hope to hear from you guy's and gal's on the topic.

Location: Boise, Idaho | Try priceless. Why? I have a friend whose dad gave him an old beat up guitar. Then he died. He keeps it by his desk. It's not playable, but it's a better reminder than a photograph. |

Location: Hicksville, NY | Even though you had not had any contact with your father all those 13 years, that Ovation guitar was in his possession all along. What you have right there is a priceless family inheritance.
On the other hand, if you need it for insurance purposes, try taking it to an authorized appraiser perhaps? Considering what you had written in your post -- that the guitar is in excellent condition -- given its age (whatever that might be), it could one that is sought after by collectors thus making it worth a good amount of money.

Welcome to the OFC. I will echo what others have said. To you and your family the guitar is a priceless reminder of your Dad.
I have a 12 string givin to me by my Dad. I will never sell it and someday it will belong to my son.
I also want to commend you for getting back with your Dad. As difficult as it seems, it is a decision you will never regret. |

Thanks for the reply everyone. The 1111-1 he believes is from the 50's but after looking at the history of Ovation they weren't around then right? I found the actual tag that would have been strung onto the neck and by the looks, it has that psychedelic look of the 60's on it. To show you how new this guitar is it has no pick scratches and no buckle scratches on the backside. Someone asked if it was shiny on the backside and its more of a eggshell. I will post a link of the guitar at my photo site so you can check it out. I'm really happy like you guys said I should be and really do appreciate the gift for my daughter. When I left home I was 23 and we lost our Mom to Cancer and had a falling out and it was over a lot of past things. I was just learning to play and since then have become a pretty decent musician and it was really nice when we met again. I had the Washburn with me and played for him. I'm a huge Cash fan and Dad has always loved him and to play a bunch of his songs brought a few tears to his eye. I know Cash wasn't a hard play but he still has some classic stuff. Thanks for the help and welcome to the new board.

Location: ranson,wva | looks excatly like my 1971 1111-1 balladeer serial # 004883. what the serial number on yours?? the headstock on your looks to be finished in a sunburst like the top. some of the other members can probly give a better answer than me but i belive the '60's ovations were shiny bowls with inliad rossetts. but i could be wrong..this would be a good itme for dave to chime in...jason |

PS - Damn doesn't Ovation just do the best sunburst in the industry or what ? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Look in the sound hole up towards the neck and see if you can find a serial number. You can get the year from that by going to the reference site on the left or to the Ovation site. Can you believe that a 30 year old guitar could look that good? Dave's right. Ovation does the best sunburst. Beautiful guitar.
Glad you found something in common with your dad. My dad and I don't have much in common except the Packers. |

The Code inside of the guitar is 122855. I went to the Ovation site and tried to crack the code but I wasn't able to really understand it so if you have time to look let me know. Thanks in advance.
I've been playing around with it and it amazes me the deep base it has compared to my Washburn Jumbo. I like the sound of it and the strings might need to be replaced. Overall I'm really happy to have this for Taylor. Now if I can convince her to take lessons I'm set.

| Now I'm getting somewhere. Taylor is my daughter Vic. She has stuck with the Violin for about 6 yrs. so maybe another instrument is in the future. ;) So what would you guy's say the the value is on this guitar being in such good shape? I want to add it to my insurance to protect it from anything like theft or fire.
