Location: ranson,wva | i use fredkelly med speedpicks when i play the pacemaker that ive got on loan..they seem to work well for me because i have trouble holding onto a flatpick..jason |

Location: Marlton, NJ | Jason - I have the same problem holding on to the pick. I ended up finding picks at Sam Ash that have a cork washer glued to one side... I took a cork washers off one pick and glued it to the other side of another. It works like a charm for me. |

Location: Copenhagen Denmark | Hi there Andrew,I`m not sure if I qualify ,but my fav pick for 12 is a Dunlop with nudged/knurled edge,0.60 i think (print has worn off,orange color)with Martin 10-47 strings,will try Silk&Steel`s 11-47 soon,so Might try/use other plectre...were U not supposed to freeze U`re "derrierre" off,while promoting U`re Hot Buns.. :D ..juzzt azzkin`.. ;)

Location: ranson,wva | ive got about a dozen of the heavy graphite adamas picks here somewhere..i think i sent witko one a few months back?? here lately all the days and months seem to run together lol..i like the sound i get from the graphite picks but i dont want my woodtop o's to look like willie's little classical martin either. jason |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | I use Fender thins on my 12s. I don't mind the clicking because I'm playing rhythm and harmony anyway. It accentuates the brightness of the 12-string, which to me is a good thing.

Location: Warren,Pa. | I use Dunlop .58mm Gator Grips (I think that's what they're called - they have a pic of an alligator on them).
I drill a 1/4" hole right through the alligator's face (ouch!). This hole has a rough edge around it which I used to sand off, but now I just leave it there. My thumb and index finger make contact through the hole, Good gripping power for these weakening hands.
The first-guitar player is real hoity-toity about his gear...but he steals my picks every chance he gets.

Location: Utah | My current preference for a 12 string is the Dunlop Tortex .88, which is green. My favorite strings are the Martin SP ex-lite. The plain strings are bronze colored. Don't know what from, but they sound great! The guitar is an Alvarez that I bought new in 1978.
On my six string I prefer the orange colored Tortex, which is .60mm IIRC. |

Location: big island | speaking/typing of picks, i am attempting to play some songs in the tommy emmanuel style. he uses a thumbpick. thumbpicks do not work so well on a guitar without a center soundhole like my adamas. the thumbpick collides with the guitar's top and will certainly, over time, dig a hole through it. then the tapping noise is amplified by the pick-up. often tommy will pick above the soundhole, closer to the fretboard, on his guitars and you can see where his thumbpicks have done some extensive damage. when picked over the soundhole it is no problem. can anyone relate to this challenge and if so, do you also have a solution? i have entertained the idea of filing the pick to shorten it but have not tried that yet. |

I don't use a thumb pick but my teacher does, and he doesn't have this problem -- probably a matter of control and familiarity. TE can get quite animated during a performance.

Location: ranson,wva | if you can pick correctly with a thumb pick you wont hit the top, bes thumb pics ive found are fred kelly's speedpicks..marcel dadi thumb picked a adamas for years, ive got pics of his adamas collection and i see no damage at all...jason |

Location: big island | i have played TE style, somewhat, for several years just using my thumb for the bass notes. i like the added bass volume TE gets especially on the dampened strings. perhaps it is just getting the hang of playing with a thumbpick after all these years without one. maybe an old dog can be taught new tricks... |
