New here and just came across this site. Been looking for info on Ovation's and found this great site. I have not played a Ovation till about a month ago. My sister-inlaw had a 1112 that she got back in the 70's. She let me use it for awhile and I fell in love with it. Love to me was a old washburn that nothing came close to in the feel of the neck and how it just felt. But when I played the 1112, well it just felt right,I can't put it down. I need to return it and now I got to get one of my own. "Question" I've been looking at the 1717 or the 1711 and want to know if the necks are about the same.In Hawaii the shops are limited on stock so the internet would be my next step. Once again, great site and thanks for your folks help!

Let me be the first to welcome you to the OFC. The mainlanders are probably sleeping now.

Don't know much about the models you mentioned, but any USA Ovation will be a pleasure to play and own. But you've found 'us' and this is the right place (only place) to get info about Ovations and pretty much anything else.

A good place to look for a used USA Ovation is in the sell/trade messageboard right here at the OFC. If you find something on eBay on the mainland, one of the members may even be able to go check it out for you.

Any abuse or teasing you recieve is friendly and well intentioned. So... you may want to re-think your screen name. Sounds a bit like Toy Boy.

Hello and welcome. muz, I didn't think 'Toy Boy' when I saw that. What I was thinking was - What exactly IS Poi, anyway? Not all the necks have the same profile, best to play one first if possible. I didn't dislike any USA O necks I've played, but I've liked some more than others. I had a Celebrity that had an awful neck, and it hurt my hand to play it.

Poi is a purple paste that has very little taste. Hawaiians love it, everyone else hates it. I had some last June in HI.

Poi, I also walked into Maui's Bounty Music and saw a pretty good selection of Ovations. You might try them. I think they also have a store in Kauaii. I also saw some O's on Kona at a music shop about a block north of the International Market.

AND... Aloha_Tim was just saying he should get rid of some of his guitars, and he would be on Ouahu...

Thanks for the replys so far guys. The Captain was right about Poi, I don't care for it myself but was the only word that came to mind. I live on Oahu which is the main island in Hawaii and the guitar shops here don't carry to much O to really try out on. They have the celerity, Takamine, etc. In the last 2wks I've played only a 771 which was a mid bowl, I'm looking for a deep bowl because most of my playin is unpluged. Shops here will get it for you but no returns if you don't like it, at least some of the guitar shops on the internet you can return it. Once again great site, and thanks for the help so far!

Welcome Poi! When the wife and I were in HI a couple years ago, we saw a duo at the hotel we were stay at named "The Poi Boys". They were fantastic! You wouldn't be part of that duo, would you?

Welcome Poi Boy,

Try out Goodguy's Music down by the zoo. They have a few Adamas and upper-end Ovation's. No imports on their walls, but your going to pay a couple hundred less than the MSRP.
I suggest you find one you like then give Alpep a call. He'll do you right on the price and get it out to the island in one piece.

Aloha_Tim
