I'm using my computer to record my guitars, and plan to do it a little more systematic as part of my practice. I need to get some microphone to record my singing and my Yamahas without pickups. Need no fancy stuff, just a cheap mic that give good value for money. Anybody got some advice?

Neumann M-149 and a nice tube pre-amp ought to do the job.

I think that misses his main requirement of "cheap"!

The Samson USB Mic can be "got" for under $100 and it is very good directly into the laptop.

The Samson USB has gotten good reviews and for the price is pretty outstanding.

I think the Marshalls are junk (personal opinion only) but I like the Oktava's...specially if you find a good one or send it to OktavaMod and have the electronics upgraded.

Hej Norge, overhere the Samson USB is considered OK to do the job,Meeeenn...U mentioned Singing too..wich means 2 Mics,so that means that U will need a little more,U have not specified what U have ( Laptop or Tower comp. )but " Wabbit/Waskel" He is an I T Manager who dabbles a lot with ComputerHomeRecording ,so He may have some Useful Advice for you, regarding hardware/software,and He appears to be a Nice Guy,( Used to Play BasketBall with Rensdyr ) :p so He would probably understand an outdoor sportsman like yourself :) ,now, and do n`t forget to come over to Kjøpenhamn ,the " Julebrygg" is out,..just so U know ;) ha`det så længe..

I do have a desktop computer p4 1,6 use onboard soundcard and plug in guitars through a Digitech RP 50 to control input signal level. I have googled a bit but really wanted to hear about your experiences. Maybe I start with asking a guy here who has a small part time business doing sound and ligthing jobs for amateur theatre and bands to lend me some mic just to try it out. As mentioned recording is meant to be a practice tool in the first place. Maybe I'll distribute some stuff if I can make anything sound like music. Time will show.

I've just started down this same road. We have a MXL 909 mic and so far really like it. I am using an Audio Buddy preamp. There are a couple of tube preamps that get very good consumer reviews on musiciansfriend.com, but I went for the Buddy to have two channels and to be a preamp for my son's piezo pickup on his violin.
