He bid up one of the Adamas on ebay recently, too.

Apparently he bids up guitars & then doesn't pay, yet somehow keeps a '0' feedback.

Personal opinion, I would not notify the seller. We have our hunches, but no solid proof and I would not go making alligations of this type unless among friends. We don't know who this garonemartin is, maybe she's one of us, heck maybe it's ME. Unless it effects me personally, I would not do anything. Dave

Exactly my thoughts as well. Somehow shadow courts don't sit well with me.

Very true. Still, it might be prudent to contact ebay and have them look into it. If it's legit, they won't do anything anyway, but if not...

There's just been way too much screwy stuff on ebay lately. I have a hard time completely ignoring something that looks really hinky just on principle.

Actually, for all we know, garonemartin could be ebay itself driving up prices on musical instruments. Unethical and probably illegal, but it could happen.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, I don't see anything unusual recently, imho, just looking to get a good deal.

learning the nuances of ebay can be tricky and intimidating, especially for the uninitiated.

Why doesn't someone ask the seller of the Adamas why he did not post negative feedback? Seems to me that garonemartin never receives negatives....that is the real mystery IMHO.

I think you guys are being a little parnoid. The reason he hasn't received a negative is because he hasn't actually won an auction yet. Do an advanced search by bidder ID, check the include completed items box and check the even if not high bidder box. He's bid on a dozen or so Ovations but never been winning bidder

I've actually seen him win at least 4 auctions. Not high bidder, not even best offers - actual finished auctions that he's won. Why it's not showing up I have no idea.

Why, you Paul!

You big tall California man you.

Paul's got the right idea btw. Don't feed the trolls or pet the dragons. I had an auction where the G-man made three bids. I added the line:

"I reserve the right to cancel any bids with feedback less than 20 unless they communicate first". I got no response or further bids.

All the auctions I've won I've been cordially persuaded to post positive feedback. It only seems reasonable to have a good rep on the 'bay. But perhaps the auctions he's won were negotiated and re-listed. Maybe most buyers wouldn't notice, but this board is quite educated and cautious when it comes to Ovations. I've noticed things before and warned the sellers, but nothing regarding garonemartin. He does appear to run up the bids and bail out..

Steve,

Unless you or someone else is willing to bid more than him, I can't see a foul. Seems he is bottom feeding with the best of us.

I did the search of activity as suggested in an earlier post and to the best of my findings he has won one auction in the the last 3 months. I didn't look deeper to see if it all worked out. No feedback in any case.

I don't see him doing anything wrong other than bidding more than I was willing to bid for that particular item.

D@MN HIM!

He also seems to bid until he finds out how high someone else's maximum bid is. I've done that before, although I have won at least one item where the other guy's maximum wasn't as high as I thought. That helps the sellers, but I'd be surprised if one person was in cahoots with so many different sellers.

I agree with you guys, no doubt you have done more reserach than I have. Ebay must be extremely difficult to control. We focus on Ovations so we tend to get curious. But, ebay has always been 'seller friendly' so competitive bidding is the name of the game. :)
