Location: Snåsa, Norway | I like the sound of my Yamaha FG 412-12, but it's actually the first 12-string I've played, and I got it from ebay, so I feel lucky. Being on this forum I feel that I have the wrong 12-string. Has anybody of you compared the sound of an Ovation 12-string with a FG412-12? Can you give me some enlightenment? |

Okay Norge,the Yam sounds good Acoustically,when equipped with a pick-up it will Feedback rather easily,(when Amplified),the 1618 sounds good acoustically,a little less bassy,but "sings" more, is not very Prone to Feedback ( it`s easily controlled ) This is based on using C F Martin msp 3000~80/20 Bronze gauge 10-47,another thing is that when " Heavy Strumming " the Yam has a kind a "drowned sound " to it,while the 1618 retains clarity,hope this clears up things a bit..as allways ,Your Friendly neighbor in the Good Beer Country ;) ( are U not coming over to get some o`that "julebrygg",or do U have enough "hjemmebryg" ) :confused: Ha det godt ;)

Location: Snåsa, Norway | I asked this (rather stupid) question by pure curiosity. My wallet says no more guitars for a while, and I'm quite content with my collection. Mainly fingerpicking unplugged the fg does the tricks I want and pleases my fingers and ears. Checked prices on O's in some Norwegian musicstores on the net and a new US Balladeer LX model 12-string go for a little over 12000 nok, which is about $2000, and way over any budget for guitar purchase. Will look around to get a chance to try some anyway. |

Location: CT | I've had 3 YAMAHA 12's over the years. 2 acoustic only FGs which sounded really nice unplugged. Also an APX-9 which has a narrower body and a decent pre amp that sounded good plugged in, but not as full acoustically. I think the LX 12 has a little more clarity in each of the strings, and is a little less muddy over all and a little more volume, but the YAMAHAs were still very nice sounding. I don't think you can have a 'wrong' guitar, especially if you like it. Everyone here has different guitars for different reasons. You want something wrong? then get yourself a banjo. :D |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | I have played 12 string ovations and 12 string yamahas. Found them both to be nice guitars. Plugged in, the ovation is superior. Of course, that's only if you like a clearer, brighter sound thru an amp. |
