Merry Christmas to me! Just received a literally unplayed Book Elite. Love the bling. What's the trick with the Optima when using the XLR line out? I recall reading something about needing to use a dummy plug in the 1/4" line-out. If so, are the dummy plug's terminals connected?

I just use a plug made to adapt a 1/4 to an RCA jack. It doesn't need to be connected to anything. I think it just trips a switch. Congrats on your good fortune. Let us know if there are any more where that came from.

Got it. Thanks, Boise Mark. I have one or two of those 1/4 to RCA jacks floating around the basement. I'll look this weekend. Evenings are crazy right now with holiday rehearsals and performances.

Prof, if you are plugging into something with phantom power, just use an XLR that has pin 1 strapped to the shell. Then you don't need the dummy plug, and you won't use the battery (unless tuning).

To highlight one of The Wabbit's points:

When there's a plug in the 1/4" jack, the battery is draining.
That's one of the percs of having the XLR...when used properly you save battery life. The only thing that needs the battery is the tuner.

Sorry if some of that's redundant or repetitive, but lots of folks just don't know these little things.

It's not a matter of proper use, but you have to have phantom power from your amp. Otherwise, the preamp won't work without the dummy plug and that will drain the battery.

Yeah, but it is the simplest battery change device I've yet seen on a guitar, so I don't worry about it. Back when you had to loosen the strings and reach inside, that was a real pain.
