I just restrung with D'ad EXP16's. Prior to that I had Dean Markley Alchemy GoldPhos Lights. You know, the "orange" strings. Well, to get to the point... Why do the EXP's tend to sound so different between strings? The DM's all blended together so nicely out of the box and until I changed them, all sounding very similar across the board. The EXP's sound just silly. Low E is dull, A and D are "tingy" as ever, like two robots talking to each other. G is "average" and B and High E are dull. Can't they make strings that sound alike? DM seems to be able to. Martin SP's are better matched to each other too. What's the deal? Im I just crazy?

Yak, I'm with you on the D'Ad EXPs. I just can't warm up to them. I tried a set last year and they felt stiff and sounded dead after about three days. I just got a brand new Custom Legend in October (which I've been meaning to post a review of, btw) and it came with the factory installed EXP16s, and my experience is the same as before... stiff and dull sounding acoustically (though they sound OK plugged in).

I think it depends on the guitar.

Elixers sound best on some of my O's but terrible on others. Same with the EXP's...sound good on some of the O's and bad on others.

and don't get me started on the Dean Markley Gold Phosphers..........

My experience with the Gold Alchemy was awful. They were like orange cables, stiff and dull. This, after I bought a few sets online. EXP's a bit better, nice buzz, but wear faster, and lose the resonance. Elxir nanos seem to be about the best. I started with them and come full circle. I should note that the last few years I've only used coated strings. They do last longer.

Hmmmm ...Maybe its just me, but I hate that brassy buzz. I kinda like a darker smoother sound. Maybe thats why I like the DM Alchemy. I really dislike how the EXP's sound so different between stings too.

The DM Alchemy's sound GREAT on one of my O's (suprisingly the 30th LTD custom legend) and like poo on almost every other one.....so I currently have about a 3 year supply of strings for the LTD
