I had to unravel the Christmas tree lights and fix the blown bulbs last weekend as the tree finally went up.

I needed five but I couldn't find the spares that came with the set I'd purchased last Christmas.

So off I go to the local hardware (Bunnings - UK equivalent would be Homebase or B&Q) and I find that a pack of 5 bulbs was gonna set me back just over 6 bucks.

But, for just over 7 bucks, I got another whole set complete with transformer and 150 lights.

AND IT CAME WITH 5 SPARE BULBS!

So I bought 3 sets.

We must be related... I had to sort through about 15 sets of three different kinds of lights yesterday to fill the tree... the nice big bulbs (some old time charm) , the little twinkly ones, and the little twinkly ones with glass over them that makes them look like the big bulbs... no wonder my wife thinks I'm crazy.

I've finally resigned myself to just buying 2 or 3 new strings every year. What the heck, I get a new tree every year anyway.

The hard part is throwing out the old sets... you just never know.

So.. what was the latest anyone ever took out the tree? I took one out a few years ago in mid january.. to the naked eye it looked good, but as soon as I went to take the first ornament off it literally exloded dead needles all over me... kind of like that animation in Monty Python and the Holy Grail when the leaves start falling and then they all commit mass suicide.

I think I need more coffee...
