My folks recently bought a country house in the woods in Massachussets and I'd really like to buy a guitar to keep up there. The thing is that I will probably only be up there once a month and when no-one else is there, the house won't be heated or cooled. So, I'm looking for a guitar which will be able to survive and sound nice without much work on my part. I'll toss a humidifier in it whenever I'm up there but that's about all the up-keep work I can do/am willing to do. Because of that I've been thinking maybe a guitar with a carbon fiber top.

What O's come with carbon fiber tops? Are there any other suggestions people have of brands and or materials?

Thanks,
JTB

Oh... one other thing - I know people always talk about how you should humidify an acoustic, but how badly messed up will the guitar become if I just leave it out? That's my other option - just buying a cheaper guitar and leaving it up there.

Thanks.

You could keep an eye out for an old aluminium neck Applause. I have one that just sits around and gets used and abused.

An Adamas to sit around and not get played? Seems like kind of a waste. You cand find Academy for about a hundred bucks give or take. Plastic bowl, plastic top. And if anyone breaks in, you're not out a coupla grand.

Really, any cheapo, imported plywood guitar would work fine for this. Figure a couple hundred bucks at any guitar store gets you started.

The number one thing is no solid wood. You could buy an Adamas (Ovation's carbon fiber guitar), but unless you are made of cash thats alot to spend for a cabin guitar.

Right; You tell me where your cabin is and a rundown of your schedule.......I'll find you a nice Adamas......I am thinking an Adamas 1, In the Red and you ought to get your self a nice litle easy to carry acoustic amp as well. Perhaps one of those little Fishman amps or even better the Bose system! Yeah That's it! The Bose.

An original deep bowl Ultra should be near the top of your lookee list. They are available on eBay regularly. Models 1311, 1312 or 1512, all USA models with lam tops. I've had one nearly 25 years and it was impervious to the elements.

I would be concerned about finish cracks if it gets really cold with the heat off. I have a similar situation, but always bring the guitar back at the end of the summer season and haul one up and back in the winter.

Thanks all. I think I'm going to just bring an instrument (guitar or bass) with me whenever I go up. It's really not that tough, and definitely cheaper! :p
