well there is one cd I pull out and look for every holiday season. that is the John Fahey Christmas Album. I know it was originally issued on vinyl and probably on 2 lp's but I was looking for it forever and finally they released it a few years ago.

Get it, the arrangements are sometimes simple but very well done it is John Fahey at his best. If you are a fan of good finger style guitar you will love it, if you are a fan of christmas music you will love it, it you love guitar you will love it

I listen to a lot of Christmas CDs, but my current favorites are the Trans Siberian Orchestra. I sure wish I could play like that!

thanks Al, I'll get one.

I recently bought "guitar for Christmas" from Michael Chapdelaine and I love it.
You can hear samples on his website.

I agree with Al, I like the Fahey a lot. I've got the TAB book to it, but most if it is over my head. I've also got a Liona Boyd xmas CD that is really nice. But to be honest, I would have to say my favorite guitar instrumental xmas CD is Navidad by our very own Serge Lara.

I wholeheartedly agree w/Al & Tupp . . .

That first Fahey album is phenomenal!

Years ago, I was making a compilation tape of some Christmas music for our store and I used Fahey's version of "Carol of the Bells". He plays it a bit "dirge-like". To pick things up a bit, I recorded it at 45rpm's instead of the 33.
If you have the LP version, try it. It sounds REALLY cool!

I'd found a CD of it years ago, but it's probably in the ex's collection. I need t'search for a new one.

I'm with Brad,

John Denver and the Muppet's.

We always played the record when the kids were younger and we would decorate our tree.

Wore out the record but I found it on CD a couple of years ago. In all places to find it, Staples.

Does anyone have the "Christmas With Chet Atkins" CD? I was driving home and thinking I might need to get it. I read reviews today that said it was poorly mastered and the sound warbles and drags.

I like Acoustic Christmas - a compilation with Adrian Legg, Greg Koch, Peppino D'agostino, Marty Friedman, et al. Adrian Legg's Jingle Bells is worth the price of admission all by itself.

OK, I'm not stupid...but I'm still confused. I still haven't seen Al's exact words on an album. Everything's close, but I'm not buyin' 'till I see an album cover with the exact title Al used.

I know...who cares?

Fahey put out Christmas albums every few years.

The one that I had suggested is his first one.

If y'get it and decide you don't like it, send it to me & I'll re-imburse you whatever it ends up costing you . . .

I agree with Dave (again, sorry). Last year I got an autographed copy of Serge's Navidad. My wife plays Christmas CDs constantly from Thanksgiving on, but Navidad is the only one I enjoy listening to. I like their interpretations of all the old standards.
