Got inspired for this post from a recent thread on 12-string tuning. I've been tuning my guitar by different methods, starting with ear and tuning adjacent strings from 6 to on by frets 5-5-5-4-5, then got a digital tuner and used that almost exclusively for a long time. Lately, I started using "all E's", tuning all strings after the first string finding the E on following frets: 2nd-5, 3rd-9, 4th-14, 5th-7(harmonic) and 6th-5(harm.). I think my guitars sound better with this tuning method, since I use the same reference note for all strings. I also believe it's much easier to tune by ear this way, for the same reason. I use my tuner less, and only as a benchmark to check my ear, so it's actually a bit of ear training as well (and I grasp eagerly after any means to improve my tonal hearing, which at best is only average!). Anyone else with views on the best way to tune guitars?

Back before digital tuners, I would do it by getting the "D" string, then the E strings and the B string from that. G string would be driven off the low E.

Main thing was to get the B string in tune with the D so that D chords sounded right.

Now, I'm just another tone deaf digital tuner user.

I tune at the(3)harmonic frets, then fine tune at octaves for b,c,d,e.. I've learned to trust my ear more than the Sabine...

Just one more great thing about attending an OFC Getogether is never having to tune your guitar. It takes about 5 minutes for the anal compulsive Tuner in the group to emerge. Just keep passing the guitars!

I just like to punch the little black button under the TUNER white letters. After that, check the octaves in a few chords.

"TU-NING" is an ancient chinese song.

"HOW LONG" is a chinaman.

Don't let Temp do it. He finishes up about the same time as the song.
