Hello out there!
This is my first posting (so please be gentle).
I am the proud owner of #20 out of 28 of what has
been described as a "pre-production prototype" Adamas that were supposedly given out to certain celebrities and select dealers in 1976.
It has a slotted peg head, is strictly acoustic
(but has a loud BEAUTIFUL sound), and has no serial number. There is a hand carved "20" inside the truss rod cavity when the walnut cover is removed. Does anyone have any insight to where some of it's "siblings" might be? I've enquired to a couple of shops here in the NYC area, and have found that those that aren't "bound" to a serial number are just not "iterested" in Ovations" (philistines!!)

If anyone can offer any insight, I'd appreciate it.

Clif, i have #7,12,33,57.....My understanding according to the history book and several employees i have spoken to is that the first 26 were prototypes, then 27-62 were pretooling production, one piece handcarved, slotted headstock models with different figerboard inlays and carved heel...Then they skipped serial numbers until #77 which was the first production adamas sold..I dont think serial numbers 63-76 exist?? Bill, any help on this? Anyway, i would like to see a pic of your serial number 20 and compare to my early serial numbers..If you have a pic sent to samova@aol.com..I'll forward you some pics of mine as well...

I thought they went to 70. 70-76 don't exist. Maybe it was 26-62. I was always under the thought that there were 44 made but that might not be.
Cliff, post some pictures of this piece. If I see it I could probably tell you more
Sam, could you post some pictures of the first two?
Thanks.

I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your Adamas' again. You emailed some to me a year or so ago. You should also post pics of the rest of your collection. I remember 5 or 6 nylon strings and have always wanted to see what else you have. I'm envious to say the least.

Sam, The ones you got. I don't know what the first one was but I know it wasn't #1. The first ones would have been bodies used for tests and probably never built into guitars.
Looking forward to the pictures.

I think I just found another question for the FAQ. Soon you will be able to upload pic's to a members area, then just click the below and enter the url. In the mean-time if you have webspace someplace, just upload it there and link to it. If you are an AOL member you have webspace, I think 10 MB which is plenty for lots of pics. Just upload to your FTP space (keyword FTP should help) and link to them.
