I was just thinking about that question the other day... after the posts about where the headstock design came from... Any work put into this site so far has just been paid for...

Some of the solid-body models I had wondered about... UKII that's easy, Deacon and Preacher have a theme, but I wonder why? Breadwinner? Magnum seems like it just fits.. Storm series, just curiios why storm also?

Thanks cwk2

no dummy would would collect uh duh mi.

where is the accent bill, on the middle syllable?

also was there a ukI? or was it so cool that it was a II from the get go. my personal opinion is that they are the sleeper of the hardbody line. everytime i pick mine up i the theme from starwars ala hendrix runs through my mind. collectors value aside it is my favorite. of course i might change my mind if i could ever try out a few of the fantastic collections described on this site.

While we're at it, after decades of my saying "KAY-men," the Ovation History book tells me it's kom-MAN. Bill, is this correct, both for your family & the corporation?

the Ultra Kaman 2 UK2 was thought up by corporate marketing. or also the U was for urelite, a name I made up for the polyurethane foam ( you really need something better than this to call it by, don't you think?) the bodies were made from. I didn't name it. I liked body number three which is what it was. Viper, preecher and this one. They were all the acoustic shape shrunk down with various cutaways.
Breadweiner- not sure where it came from or who said it but I sure wish they'd called in sick that day. really bad name
the storms, nice theme and all that. not totally original, lots of toronados and hurricanes in history
Viper and preecher. Viper is pretty good but preecher, for electric guitar????
Magnum, Rickard always thought basses should be big, look at the front pickup he designed. Magnum is a big bottle of wine.
Names are very hard to come up with, easy to make jokes.

I kind of liked the name Preacher; despite my own lack of faith, I thought it harkened to one of rock 'n' roll's most important roots, Gospel. It also suggests that some important speaking is being done, so you'd better listen up!

All this talk here about model names and all got me thinking about a conversation i had a couple of years ago with a guy who worked in a music store in Ct...His father worked for many years for ovation.I think he was in marketing or sales or something like that.Anyway, his father was pretty high up in the food chain at ovation or maybe Kaman music corp..His story was that Charles Manson wrote a letter to Ovation from prison asking that they build and design a model called "the Lifer"...Manson was a long time guitar player and songwritter. In fact many musicians say he may have had a career as a musician had he not takin the direction he ultimately took..Anyway, the guy at the music store had a copy of the letter that Manson forwarded to Ovation from prison and he told me about it.Basically, Manson was asking for a model made for him called "The Lifer"...I cannot confirm this other than what this guy told me.Bill, did you ever hear about this while you were at Ovation?I was always curious if this was a true story.I had no reason not to beleave the guy,but never actually saw the letter myself .Maybe someone at ovation has heard this story?..BTW, this guy also had the only left handed Deacon ever built. It was custom built by his father while he worked for Ovation or Kaman..He sent me a copy of the blue print he had for the deacon along with some other ovation items.....

And all this time I thought that the Adamas was named after Lorne Greene's character on "Battlestar Gallactica"!

- (just kidding.)
